Staff Software Engineer
About the role
Chime is looking for a Senior technologist to provide broad guidance and technology strategy across the Risk Organization, while supporting teams and having broad impact mostly through influence (rather than through direct people management).
For Colorado based roles:Â In accordance with applicable law, this role has an annual starting salary of $220,000 plus bonus, a competitive equity package, and benefits (see below). The actual pay may be higher depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.
In this role, you can expect to
- Drive long-term Architecture/Technology roadmap, shaping organizational strategy with long-term considerations for technical architecture. Articulates a coherent future vision for systems that span teams, or many systems across teams. Helps define the model of what good & appropriate technical visions comprise.
- Work closely with our engineering leaders to identify bottlenecks in our existing software infrastructure and guide the team through a path forward to improve and scale it. Ensure that technical decisions support our quality, performance, scalability, reliability, availability, and security goals.
- Design and lead implementation of complete distributed systems to meet all business needs, including service level objectives, scaling and performance requirements, anticipating common failure patterns and designing for resiliency of the overall system.
- Implement distributed system components to meet service level objectives, provide scalability vs performance tradeoffs of subcomponents, and make design recommendations for the areas you own.
- Deliver software features with exceptional quality, meeting designated release plans and delivery commitments.
- Be the trusted 'drop in' resource that can absorb new business and/or technical concepts quickly and implement POCs to validate business and/or technical hypotheses.
- Follow software engineering best practices in code, architecture, and testing.
- Consider and propose new programming language & platform choices for the organization.
- Make the organization more effective through smart & pragmatic application of useful code tools & patterns.
- Work with organizational leaders to improve project accountability across many or all teams.
- Serve as a role model for mentorship within the engineering organization and encourages innovation and foster an environment of continuous improvement.Â

To thrive in this role, you have
- Experience with Ruby on Rails or comparable languages and frameworks.
- Experience using GraphQL, huge plus!
- A minimum of 10 years developing software in a production environment at scale.
- Rigor in A/B testing, test coverage, and web best practices.
- Exposure to architectural patterns of a large, high-scale web applications
- Start-up experience, a plus!
