About Stellar Health:

Historically, US Healthcare has relied on a fee-for-service reimbursement system where providers are paid based on the quantity of patient visits and procedures instead of the quality of health outcomes. Stellar Health helps primary care providers continually engage with their patients by providing them real-time information and tangible action-based incentives for improving quality of care for their patients.

At Stellar Health, we’re simplifying value-based care. The Stellar platform, a cloud-based, point-of-care tool, fits into existing provider workflows and creates a simple checklist of recommended actions that helps deliver the best quality care for patients. We’re building our technology from the ground up, and the industry is starting to take notice.

Our product actively supports over 500K patient lives - and we have shown that we make a real difference for these practices and their patients. It’s an exciting time to join the Stellar Team: We recently raised a $60M Series B at a $460M valuation from Top VCs in the health-tech space (General Atlantic, Point72, & Primary Venture Partners), have an established product & proven operating model, and we’re scaling our team to meet the continued growth and impact on our healthcare system.

About the position:

The Stellar Health engineering team is experienced and has worked to build a mature engineering culture from day one. We have implemented product development best practices and operate in a way that gives every engineer, regardless of seniority, the opportunity to directly impact the product and our customers.

As a Staff Software Engineer you will be responsible for leading technical efforts that affect multiple squads to address the most pressing technical needs that affect multiple teams. These efforts could range from driving architectural choices, to deep dives into cross-team performance issues, to driving alignment on specific technology choices. You will be reporting directly to the Director Of Engineering for our User Facing zones and work closely with our founding team to define the product roadmap, specifications, and priorities. Your work will require deep research into our codebase with the expectation that a Staff-level engineer will lead by example through research, proof of concept, design work, and code changes.

Who will love this job:

  • You have a passion for developer productivity, great documentation, and an understanding of how to build a strong engineering culture
  • You take pride in shepherding projects from ideation to completion, often requiring partnership with stakeholder teams to carefully roll out changes
  • You enjoy working collaboratively across teams and disciplines to plan and sequence work
  • You seek out feedback from your users and empathetically advocate for them throughout the development process
  • You care about code quality and you know what it means to ship robust, production code
  • You love working in an environment where you constantly experiment and iterate quickly
  • You enjoy helping organize and scope high priority projects to keep us moving forward

What you’ll do:

  • Build a best-in-class user experience for our User Facing application
  • Share in the ownership of the technical direction and impact of the frontend - be responsible for consistently delivering new features and iterations to existing ones
  • Work with the team to align on product roadmaps, specifications, and priorities.
  • Ensure our users have a bug-free and fast experience
  • Evolve the architecture to maintain velocity of shipping visible changes
  • Actively contribute to Stellar’s Engineering Culture and ensure engineers are writing clear and concise production code for the Stellar Health Platform
  • Provide effective and constructive feedback by reviewing others’ work
  • Set consistent standards via code and design reviews, as well as your own technical contributions

As a Staff Engineer you should have:

  • At least 8 years of Software Engineering experience
  • You have a deep understanding of system design, data structures, and algorithms
  • Experience leading and coordinating large architectural projects and rollouts
  • Experience writing performant, low latency services and know how to deploy and keep them running in production
  • A strong focus on the longevity of the codebase. You notice and advocate for patterns that allow code to be flexible, scalable, and approachable to other engineers
  • An ability to troubleshoot and diagnose issues quickly and effectively when they arise, bringing calm and rationality to tense situations
  • A demonstrated ability to work across engineering teams on projects that elevate not just our own systems and designs, but those of other teams as well
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. We work with people across time zones and backgrounds, so you need to be able to communicate both effectively and inclusively

Pay, Perks & Such:

We offer a full slate of benefits, including competitive salaries, medical, dental, vision, life and disability coverages, a 401k program, paid family leave, and flexible vacation.

Note on COVID response:

Stellar’s Union Square NYC HQ is currently open for those that wish to use it and we are supporting both hybrid and remote-friendly work across the US!

An Insider's view of Stellar Health

What are some social events your company does?

Stellar has made efforts throughout COVID to maintain a collaborative and face-to-face culture. We have organized outdoor, socially distanced, events like happy hours in local parks and dinners in various NYC neighborhoods. These have been a great way to connect with fellow team members and keep work fun.

What are some things you learned at the company?

I've learned about healthcare! Before joining Stellar, I only had a basic understanding of how this industry works. I thought it was pretty simple but turns out healthcare is a complicated space. Working here has been a fascinating learning experience for me & our inhouse healthcare experts (we have many) have been so helpful getting me ramped up.
