About the role:
Fivetran is looking for a Staff Software Engineer enthusiastic about developer experience and productivity.
You are eager to get the best tools and apply the most effective methodologies to provide the top-notch experience to engineers around you and around the world. You are interested in finding points of productivity loss and you are ready to design, implement and deploy better approaches. You are not afraid to dive deep into details of implementation such as tools, plugins, local builds and tests, build systems and CI/CD pipelines to ensure that your solution is implemented in the most optimal way.
- “Own” the developer experience and feel responsible and accountable for it.
- Collaborate with engineers and engineering teams to identify productivity issues and bottlenecks before they impact engineers.
- Develop metrics and approaches to measure developer experience and productivity.
- Drive initiatives to eliminate bottlenecks.
- Experiment with and deploy new tools and approaches to explore new levels of developers productivity.
- Track trends, propose future changes and maintain a roadmap (backlog) of developer experience improvements.
Expectations and Success Measures:
- After one month, you are familiar with our teams and development process
- After three months, you participated in a project that optimized some aspect of our daily engineering routine
- After six months, you identified and eliminated a major productivity issue
- After twelve months you are leading key development productivity initiatives
You can say that you've done great if:
- The engineering team provides 90%+ positive feedback in a developer experience and productivity survey
- Local builds and tests are fast and stable
- Engineers aren’t blocked or frustrated by ineffective technical processes and policies
- Engineers aren’t facing any issues with their tools
Qualifications:
- An extensive track record of building quality software
- Experience with different programming languages and frameworks
- Experience in development of tools and plugins
- Experience with build tools (Bazel / Maven / Gradle)
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (CircleCI / Jenkins / Travis CI / GitLab / TeamCity)
- Experience with code quality control tools (Sonarqube, PMD, PVS-studio)
- Experience in workflow and process design and optimisation
Nice to haves:
- Java, ES/TS, Python programming experience.
- Experience in data processing (ETL, ELT) and/or cloud-based platforms.
- Automation experience.
- Interest in new tools and methodologies.
- Desire to make engineers as productive and happy as they can be.
