Developer Efficiency at Credit Karma enables our product engineering teams to build, deploy and manage their services at scale to serve our 100 million+ members. Our teams focus on the complete development life cycle which includes the CI/CD pipeline. We build internal products that engineers use to manage their code, pipelines and service management. Besides the management pieces we build products that focus on providing developer analytics and process gates through a policy engine.

Your role would be to build and innovate best practices and automation at scale, develop enhancements to increase reliability and efficiency for our engineering teams. We are looking for a strong customer advocate for product engineers who can identify friction points and design solutions to address. You will report to the Director of Dev Efficiency having wide access to work across the various Developer Efficiency teams. We are looking for someone who has a passion for development velocity through automation and CI, desire to build deep technical expertise and enjoys the challenge of overseeing mission-critical components.

What you’ll do:

  • Work closely with security, platform and product engineers to understand customer needs, pain points and lead innovations to improve reliability and efficiency while keeping a secure by design mindset
  • Build and implement best practices and improve automation to scale the team to manage a growing number of clusters
  • Identify friction points and drive features in our existing products, process change proposals or new product proposals
  • Lead complex designs and architecture discussions with Developer Efficiency teams.

  • Kubernetes has largely become the execution platform at Credit Karma. More than 90% of workloads at Credit Karma now run in one of our GKE clusters
  • Have the technical leadership across many teams, identifying integration points between our products and help provide growth opportunities.
  • Our teams make a big impact within Credit Karma Engineering, ability to help create next-generation tools or features to increase their velocity

Minimum Basic Requirement:

  • 7+ years of programming experience
  • 5+ years of experience in microservices architecture, managing large-scale production services
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and provide mentorship and share knowledge with other engineers
  • Expertise in one of more programming languages such as python, go, typescript, or java etc.
  • Passion for automation and achieve continuous improvement

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience working with kubernetes at scale
  • Experience with gitops
  • Deployment or managing experience with Infrastructure as code
  • Ability to express complex ideas in a simple manner and ability to create well thought out technical designs and rollout/migration plans for essential components
  • Experience building products
  • Experience with writing production grade and scalable services in Go or TypeScript
