Meanwhile, a poor experience can have enormous consequences for a Guest’s important trip or a Host’s home. Guests and Hosts have high expectations when using the platform, and we rely heavily on reviews in order to build the necessary trust with our users. 

The difference you will make:

The Reviews and Standards Team at Airbnb is responsible for collecting and actioning on data collected from our users, including the business logic of the questions we ask in the review flow, escalating education and enforcement when we receive poor feedback, and the product infrastructure that makes storing, querying and acting on all this data easy and scalable. We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to help us further develop the world class backend that powers the Reviews program.

A typical day:

• Making data collected in the review flow, including complex queries and rich aggregations, easily available across Airbnb surfaces including listing merchandising and standards enforcement
• Evolving data storage and access strategies to improve scalability and developer efficiency
• Product updates to the review flow to collect targeted information in an intuitive user experience
• Technical mentorship and direction setting for the team

Your expertise:

• 8+ years of industry experience on large scale systems
• Proficiency in one or more backend server languages (Java/Ruby/Go/C++/etc.)
• Experience designing, building, and iterating on performant and robust distributed systems with operational practices to ensure high reliability
• A track record of leading engineering project teams and working with cross functional partners to deliver technical solutions that achieve team and organizational goals
• Experience with building real-time streaming data pipelines a plus

How we'll take care of you:

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting base pay for this role is between $190,000 and $245,000. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits. 

Your Location:

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager. Airbnb,Inc. can employ in  states where we have registered entities. Currently, employees can not be located in: Alaska, Indiana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Alabama, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Delaware and Rhode Island.
