Staff Engineer - Web Frontend
The Stride team is on the lookout for a motivated, frontend-focused Staff Engineer to work across teams and functions and help take Stride’s engineering ecosystem to the next level. You’ll have a strong influence on our frontend technical direction and architectural design and will help scale our platform for the future. You’ll also be a passionate advocate for best practices in MV* architectures, unit/integration/UI testing, and a true partner with both product and design leadership.
We’re looking for a highly autonomous engineer with a proven track record of leveling up others. Someone who will help raise the bar and break new ground in how we operate and evolve our team culture and development practices.
Responsibilities:- Help modernize our codebase and infrastructure so we have a state-of-the-art architecture that applies best practices. You’ll advocate for solid and clean architecture principles, testing, and Continuous Integration/Delivery.
- Collaborate closely with senior management and product to turn product strategy into action.
- Own large chunks of the web frontend codebase and infrastructure and have a leading voice.
- Developing frontend application architecture that allows us to move fast and iterate quickly and is backed by rock-solid infrastructure.
- We have a wealth of financial and benefits marketplace data that our customers are eager to use in novel ways, so you’ll help implement and release new features for the Stride Platform web apps.
- Work alongside our product and design teams to maintain and extend the feature set of the Stride web apps.
- Collaborate with multiple Engineering and non-Engineering teams within the company on cross-functional efforts.
- Proven track record leading quality, high-growth Web Engineering teams from a technical standpoint.
- Are able to partner with leadership and influence the team to help the group navigate ambiguous situations.
- Have good active listening skills, the ability to empathize with customers, stakeholders and other engineers
- You lead by example by practicing open and respectful dialogue.
- You have a wide-range of programming experience in Javascript.
- Strong proficiency in at least one Javascript framework like React (preferred), Vue, or similar
- A deep understanding of Computer Science fundamentals and excitement to work on a fast-paced, collaborative team.
- An eye for detail and design. You are as comfortable whipping up a quick proof-of-concept to share with Product and Design, as you are refining and coming up with pixel-perfect web apps.
- You have deployed your apps/services to at least one cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Experience working with both REST and GraphQL APIs and services.
- Most importantly, you possess a strong bias for action and a growth mindset. You are as comfortable zooming in to apply your expertise as you are zooming out to see the big picture.
- Are familiar with design tools like Figma, Sketch, Zeplin.
- Have experience working with RDBMS such as Postgres/MySQL.
- Attend meetups, conferences, and participate in the software engineering community.
- Are confident programming in Typescript.
- Have built ExpressJS Applications.
- Have experience using an ORM.
- Have used Redis.
- Have experience with NoSQL datastores such as DynamoDB or MongoDB.
- Are familiar with serverless architecture patterns.
- Have used devops tools like Terraform/Docker/Kubernetes.
