The Azure VMware Solution (AVS) Cloud Solution Architect works autonomously and as part of a dynamic and specialized sales team that is responsible for engaging with clients to understand their business challenges and IT priorities to design customized AVS solutions to help our customers drive cloud adoption.

Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

First 6 months:

• Lean on your mentors and on-boarding buddies for situational advice, technical questions, and career advice.
• Deep dive on the VMware technologies that form the AVS solution, become comfortable presenting AVS and get to the point of being able to answer highly technical questions on this subject while also getting to grips with core Azure fundamentals around networking as well as IaaS and PaaS services.
• Have an innate curiosity for the technology you work with and the business processes. You can never ask too many questions!

Second 6 Months:

• We want you to offer a fresh perspective, and we encourage you to identify gaps and areas we can improve upon as a team.
• Build relationships with other stakeholders at VMware to develop a holistic understanding of the business and how you can make an impact both internally and with Microsoft and beyond.

The Work of an AVS Cloud Solution Architect?

What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?You may modify your everyday activities to suit your professional strengths, but you can expect a variety of the following assignments:

• Participate in and drive elements of the route to consumption process to understand customer business, technical objectives, and product requirements.
• Establish credibility & build deep relationships with senior technical leaders within customers and become trusted advocates of VMware's cloud strategy.
• Architect AVS solutions, leading & participating in architecture workshops, running strategy and discovery workshops, and conducting client meetings.
• Partnering with Microsoft on pilots and technical validation activities to showcase the AVS service and Azure integrations.
• Build relationships with Microsoft sales and technical specialists that are part of our "sell-with" motion for AVS and work as one-team on joint solution architecture engagements.
• Collaboration with VMware Business Units to provide real-time feedback and trends to help influence the AVS roadmap based on customer needs and objectives.
• Build AVS enablement content, demo environments, and media for the greater field to leverage as part of positioning our multi-cloud strategy and ensuring others know AVS.
• Support the AVS partner ecosystem in terms of enablement and driving solutions into the market.
• Mentor and enable technical sellers on new VMware Cloud solutions.
• Participate in regional marketing events to promote VMware's cloud strategy.
• Author blogs, technical articles, or white papers based on experiences of VMware Cloud.
• Speak at events such as VMware Explore, Sales Kick-Offs, Technical Summits, and other industry events.

What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?

The hiring manager for this role is Mark Meulemans, Director of Hyperscaler Cloud Solution Architecture for the Americas. Mark encourages team members to continuously grow professionally and live by the values and creativity they bring to the team.

The team is distributed across North America, with all members working remotely. We work closely with other teams around the world at both VMware and Microsoft. We are a friendly and collaborative group that learns and grows together while trying to have some fun in the process.

Where is this role located?

Flexible: The role is considered flexible and will be a mix of working from a local VMware office and remote depending on your preferences and the arrangements determined with your future manager. You will be expected to live within a reasonable non-daily commute of the office.
