About the Role:

As a Staff Backend Engineer for our Next Gen Sequencing (NGS) platform, you will have the opportunity to bring your experience, passion and creativity to architect, design, and develop scalable software solutions to support our vision to enable universal access to genomic sequencing. You will use your experience of implementing large scale enterprise back-end systems from concept to production to create a scalable and resilient cloud based system. Responsibilities: 

  • Work with a cross-functional team that’s responsible for the full software development life cycle, from conception to deployment with focus on API, back-end solution and persistence (DB, NoSQL and Objects).
  • Architect, design and develop APIs and server-side solutions on GCP and AWS, based on industry best practices.
  • Design of client-server, microservices-based distributed scalable architectures.
  • Architect, Design, Develop, Implement and manage applications and databases to address functionality, usability, maintainability, security, scalability and optimized performance.
  • Evaluate frameworks, architectures and design principles; select and implement the most effective solution.
  • Design effective testing strategies and provide guidance on automation techniques.

Qualifications: 

  • Degree in Computer Science, or relevant field. Working experience in the life sciences or other scientific industry preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience as a software professional with experience in back-end application architecture (including API’s and databases), design and development or similar roles.
  • 8+ years experience architecting, designing and developing API, microservices and back-end applications.
  • 8+ years experience in implementing frameworks, data access layer design working with multiple persistent systems (relational, nosql, objects) and implementation of large scale enterprise back-end systems from concept to production with reliability, availability and scalability.
  • Experience in designing multi-tenanted, scalable, secure solutions optimized for time, space and cost using global API’s and universal data access mechanisms for creating fault-tolerant, highly available and reliable systems.
  • Hands-on experience with and knowledge of:
    • multiple back-end languages including Python
    • frameworks such as Django, Flask, Angular, React and Node.js
    • databases including partitioning and sharding
    • web servers
    • REST API’s
    • Orchestration engines such as Kubernetes
    • Agile methodologies
  • Experience building and deploying applications to GCP and AWS using Cloud Native application development skills while incorporating best security practices.
  • Knowledge of algorithms to optimize search, enhance parallel execution, and enable restart of applications.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in deploying containerized applications using Kubernetes cluster including experience of nodes, pods and auto-scaling clusters.
  • Experience in defining and implementing loosely coupled collaboratives services using microservice architecture with in-depth knowledge of microservice design patterns.

At this time, we can only consider applicants with authorization to work in the United States on a permanent, full-time basis; unfortunately, we cannot provide visa sponsorship.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $171,000 to $258,000 per year.

Compensation for this role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, experience and geographic location, and may fall outside of the range shown.
