In this role, you will be leading engineering and new business generation for Sony's "Business Exploration and Development" (BXD) division in areas of machine learning and sensor development (RGB, IR, TOF, etc.), with end-to-end responsibility from concept to launch, incorporating ideation, UX/design, product strategy, program management, and engineering leadership.

As the Sr. Software Engineering Manager, you will lead the discovery and development of new opportunities (internal and external) by guiding the engineering organization through Lean Startup and Design Thinking activities. This role is responsible for:

  • Establishing cross-functional project teams by budgeting/recruiting the right team members (program managers, architects, developers, devops, UX/Design, QA), and supporting planning/development to drive results
  • Coaching team members in leadership, project management, software architecture/development, and UX.
  • Owner of engineering process and establishing best practices for the organization, including coaching and supporting Agile/Scrum methodology, and occasionally serving as Scrum Master (CSM).
  • Typically serving as Product Owner (CSPO) during early project stages, working with stakeholders to define goals/KPIs and authoring the initial epics and user stories. Collaborating with executive management across research, sales, marketing, business development, and customer support (where applicable), as well as serving as representative of the engineering organization externally to customers.



Minimum Requirements:

  • B.S. in Computer Engineering from a highly ranked university.
  • 15+ years in the technology industry, mainly software focused.
  • 10+ years in engineering management positions involving leadership of engineering, program management, UX/Design, quality, and technical product management functions.
  • Must have extensive hands-on experience developing software across a variety of platforms and environments, including PC, mobile, web, cloud, and embedded.
  • Must have extensive experience with project management, including the planning and orchestration of large scale, global projects, with budgets up to $5million.
  • Must have extensive experience in User Experience, including visual design, interaction design, and information architecture.



Preferred Requirements:

  • Beneficial to have certifications in agile program management, including Certified Scrum Master or Certified Scrum Product Owner.
  • Extensive experience working outside domain of expertise, across multiple business functions, including sales, marketing, business development, product management, finance, communications, and customer support/service.
