The Opportunity

DAT is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our team in Beaverton, OR or Denver, CO.

We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer that is passionate about building great customer-facing software. You will be working in a full stack TypeScript ecosystem (Node/Angular) to develop code that is reliable, maintainable, and scalable. Staff engineers at DAT participate and coordinate across teams and are evaluated at least in part based on their team’s outcomes.
In this role you will tackle a variety of stories, from building microservices to creating compelling user experiences on top of the latest web technologies. You will be part of a team that designs, develops, tests, and delivers solutions through our CI/CD environments and deploy solutions to our customers hosted on AWS.

Candidate profile

  • Growth-oriented. You see failure as an opportunity to learn, and consistently prioritize the next most important thing to improve.
  • Pragmatic. You’d prefer to build and deliver customers value in two weeks rather than spend months polishing something you’re not sure a customer will want. Passionate. You get excited about challenging new problems to solve and applying existing or new technologies in new and creative ways.
  • Owner. You know business outcomes reflect on all team members, and collaborate with your team and other business disciplines to achieve the best customer outcomes. You take pride in the code you craft and the practices you apply.
  • Empathetic. You care about the team, the organization, the company, and cultivate a positive work culture.
  • Collaborative. You like to share your knowledge.  You understand that the collective knowledge is more important than individual, and you seek to ensure others are as informed as you and expect the same in return.
  • Quality. You care about the quality of your work and the experience your customers receive.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and develop reliable, scalable, and maintainable software solutions
  • Participate in design/code reviews
  • Coach and mentor other team members in areas of expertise (such as TypeScript, AWS solutions, and REST APIs)
  • Write unit, integration, and functional tests, and guide others in doing the same
  • Lead team members to improve development processes and practices
  • Document software designs and project tasks
  • Decompose product requests into estimable plans with noted dependency chains
  • Review functional requirements and analyze their impact on schedule and software design
  • Translate business needs and requirements into technical specifications

The Skills and Experience You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience, plus.
  • 8+ years’ experience in software development with demonstrated experience working full stack
  • Expertise using modern server frameworks (ideally Node.js) to build microservices and/or REST APIs
  • Expertise developing using containers (Docker/Kubernetes) and/or serverless technologies (Lambdas)
  • Expertise using web UI frameworks such as Typescript, React or Angular to build web UI’s
  • Competency with build and deployment in AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Experience with Scrum/Agile SDLC
  • Invested in the professional growth and development of individuals and teams
  • Competency with client and server unit testing
  • Outstanding interpersonal, written communication skills
  • Adept at building professional bridges with professionals from a wide range of disciplines
