Sr. Software Engineer - Terraform Platform
HashiCorp is a fast-growing startup that solves development, operations, and security challenges in infrastructure so organizations can focus on business-critical tasks. We build products to give organizations a consistent way to manage their move to cloud-based IT infrastructures for running their applications. Our products enable companies large and small to mix and match AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and other clouds as well as on-premises environments, easing their ability to deliver new applications for their business.
The Platform Engineering team is composed of Site Reliability Engineers and distributed systems engineers working on the Terraform Cloud hosted service. Our team ensures that the platform’s underlying infrastructure, data stores, and core foundational services are reliable, performant, and robust.
We’re looking for a mid-level software engineer to join our team. The engineers on our team own the core foundational services that power the entire Terraform Cloud hosted service. These mission-critical services and data stores compose the Terraform plan and apply pipeline, and are used by every Terraform run which hits Terraform Cloud.
An ideal candidate will have experience building distributed systems at scale, a principled approach to service security, and an interest in working closely with both infrastructure and feature teams to solve complex problems that span several services.
If you fit this profile, we’d love to meet you! We have a large footprint and a quickly-growing user base, with lots of interesting problems and plenty of opportunities for growth and development.
Responsibilities
In this role, you can expect to:
- Develop and maintain the Platform Engineering core services
- Work with the infrastructure team to define the next-generation architecture of the Terraform Cloud platform
- Establish and foster best practices around service security and performance
- Investigate problems, performance bottlenecks, and orchestration issues which span multiple services
Requirements
You probably have:
- Experience building and scaling distributed, highly-available systems
- Solid knowledge with one systems language, and ability to code in several more (our foundational services are written in Go)
- Experience debugging performance bottlenecks for live services and systems
- Familiarity with best practices for application and infrastructure security
