The Senior Telephony Software Engineer is responsible for research, implementation, maintenance, and support of the telephony connectivity and media processing facilities of our PSTN interface (edge) systems. This position will work with Opentext operations world-wide in gathering requirements, design, development, support, and maintenance of the Telephony systems, focusing on their seamless transition from TDM ISDN to SIP / IP telephony.

The Senior Telephony Engineer will provide SME expertise in low level telephony programming and full software development cycle as it relates to Fax and Voice Technologies with the emphasis on IP Telephony technologies. This position is responsible for developing new functionality, enhancements, and maintainence of the existing telephony software systems.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field. Master's degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in telephony software development in C/C++ in Enterprise Linux environments.
  • Deep knowledge of C/C++ language, OO programming in expertise in high performance, muti-threaded, real-time telephony server development.
  • Demonstrated software development estimation and effective communications skills.
  • Proven design, coding, and debugging experience of complex multi-threaded distributed software systems in C++.
  • Proficient with SVN, CVS, Wireshark, JIRA, VMware, RedHat Enterprise Linux, Quality Logic tools.
  • Solid telephony, fax, and voice-problem analysis and troubleshooting experience.
  • Deep understanding of telephony technologies, especially fax transmission protocols, including SIP, ISDN, RTP, IDPTL, T.30, T.38, modulation standards and their successful application in real life commercial environments.
  • Knowledge of telephony equipment, especially telephony and media processing physical and virtual cards and various network and infrastructural gear.
  • Professional experience with multiple telephony vendor APIs such as Aculab, Dialogic, Brooktrout, Commetrex, etc.
  • Ability to troubleshoot communications problems such as telephony protocol/circuit issues including at hardware/OS/kernel/network level as required.
  • Understanding of software development life cycle methodologies (particularly Agile).
