Join the Claims Highway team as a Sr. Software Engineer! Our team of Engineers challenges convention to drive value to the business by delivering innovative solutions to some of healthcare's most complex problems. We utilize strategic technologies to stream data to our users, enrich data in our core systems, enable Cloud migrations, and countless other things as we move toward further democratizing huge volumes of claims data within our domain. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Influence senior leadership to adopt new ideas, products and/or approaches to help solve complex problems with broad impact on the business
  • Performing all phases of software engineering including requirements analysis, application design, and code development & testing
  • Designing and implementing product features in collaboration with business and IT stakeholders
  • Design, develop and test reusable frameworks, libraries and Java components
  • Be innovative in solution design and development to meet the needs of the business
  • Address the performance issues and design the solutions to meet low latency needs
  • Reviewing code and providing feedback relative to best practices, improving performance etc.
  • Troubleshooting production support issues post-deployment and come up with solutions as required
  • Demonstrate substantial depth of knowledge and experience in Java development
  • Drive the team and collaborate to meet project timelines
  • Test software development methodology in an agile environment
  • Provide ongoing maintenance, support and enhancements in existing systems and platforms
  • Provide recommendations for continuous improvement
  • Work alongside other engineers on the team to elevate technology and consistently apply best practices
  • Collaborating with business partner in creating user stories

Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience working within the Software Development Life Cycle in a distributed environment
  • 4+ years of demonstrated proficiency in at least two of the following:
    • Cloud - Kubernetes / Cloud exposure (SAAS/PASS/IAAS)
    • Application Build and Deployment using Jenkins, Gradle / MAVEN
    • Microservices - RESTful API
    • Database - DB2, MySQL, Oracle
    • Linux/Unix
  • 2+ years of experience Java/J2EE Development/Spring Framework/Spring Boot/Spring Batch
  • Experience working within an Agile/Scrum Methodology


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
  • Health care industry experience, claims knowledge

  • Data Formats - XML, JSON, X12
  • Streaming - Kafka, WebSphere MQ
  • Scripting - KornShell, Python

Connecticut Residents Only: The salary range for Connecticut residents is $90,500 to $161,600. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
