What’s the role?

Etsy is looking for a passionate QA Engineer to join our established Mobile App Engineering organization. In this role you will work within our App Platform initiative to enable app engineering teams to deliver high quality experiences for Etsy Buyers and Sellers. You will collaborate with other motivated testers, product partners, designers and engineers across multiple fields to support our family of apps. Our growing team requires someone who will thrive developing novel solutions to unbounded problems that can improve the lives of both Etsy users and engineers alike.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager. For this role, we are considering candidates based in Mexico who are either remote, flex, or office-based. What’s this team like at Etsy?

• App QA at Etsy provides both direct embedded testing support and as needed testing support for most teams creating new buyer and seller facing features

• QA handles setting up all regression testing ceremonies, including interfacing with a third party for running the regression suite and is responsible for triaging and routing any issues to accountable parties for assessment 

• The team is at an inflection point to transition away from a strictly manual testing team to adopting more scalable automation testing practices

What does the day-to-day look like?

• Helping to build out our UI automation test suite with the assistance of our mobile app Test Infrastructure team and other QA.

• Cross-train QA team mates to bolster automation skill sets across the team.

• Provide a variety of in-depth testing techniques to ensure new features are released as defect free as possible. 

• Help to troubleshoot flaky or failing test runs. 

• Develop and maintain a robust suite of regression tests. 

• Work closely with Product Owners and Engineering counterparts to translate acceptance criteria for new features into well balanced test plans to execute upon.

• Triage issues to determine the priority and severity and ensure they are routed to relevant teams.

• Use a variety of mobile tooling to test analytics, UI, API calls, accessibility and more.

Qualifications

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are

• Have 4+ years of experience in software QA with at least 2+ years experience testing mobile applications.

• 2+ years of hands-on experience with automated testing frameworks and tooling, preferably in a mobile app context.

• Are an expert at writing and executing test cases. 

• Love to investigate, triage, document, and communicate complex issues in a clear and concise manner. 

• Can accomplish complex engineering tasks both independently, and collaboratively.

• Lead with questions, curiosity, and kindness while being an excellent communicator.

• Are comfortable saying “I don’t know”, doing research, and returning with options complete with trade offs.

• Deeply understand the complexities of a mobile ecosystem including the nuances of both the iOS & Android operating systems.

• Are proficient at investigating and retrieving crash logs for multiple mobile platforms.

• Know your way around Android Studio, TestFlight and Xcode.

• Are adept at using mobile tooling such as ADB, Emulators, Charles Proxy, Postman, and more.

• Are a strong communicator who’s comfortable relaying information to many different parties.

• Can see the “big picture” to define testing strategies across a range of problem sets. 

• Thrive working with cross-functional teams.
