The Space Development Division/Data Exploitation Department works with the Tools, Applications, and Processing (TAP) Lab in Boulder, CO, and the SMC/DCIA Technology Evolution Branch in El Segundo, CA, to provide innovation for furthering warfighting capabilities and discovery of civil and commercial uses of remote sensing data. The responsibilities of this position are to provide subject matter expert (SME) guidance and leadership to the Tech Evolution Branch program managers in the selection, technical evaluation, and technical oversight/assessment of Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR), weather, and environmental projects, and to assist in the transition of capabilities from the TAP Lab into operations. The primary job location for the position is in El Segundo, CA. The selected candidate will work closely with Government customers, as well as other government agencies, and FFRDC, SETA, and SE&I development personnel. The candidate will be expected to provide proactive support to the customer and cultivate productive working relationships in a fast-paced multi-organizational environment. The position requires occasional travel, particularly in the CO area.

 

What You’ll Be Doing 

  • Provide leadership, technical guidance, and innovation in advancing OPIR and other remote sensing mission data processing capabilities
  • Work with Tech Evolution program managers, support staff, and capability developers to ensure successful project selection and new capability development
  • Lead and coordinate Aerospace subject matter experts providing recommendations, technical evaluations, guidance, and assessments for development of new remote sensing capabilities
  • Create and maintain relationships coordinating across the larger OPIR enterprise including the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA), the Integrated Systems Program Office (ISPO), the National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC), the Space Development Agency (SDA), and the Missile Defense Agency (MDA)
  • Support the transition of new operational capabilities from the TAP Lab to the OPIR Battlespace Awareness Center (OBAC)

 

What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements for Project Engineer role:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, software, or a related technical field
  • 8 or more years of relevant experience that includes involvement in remote sensing algorithm and capability development
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, FFRDCs, SETAs, contractors
  • Current TS/SSBI clearance with SCI access , which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
  • Ability to travel as needed, on average a few days per month

 

What You Need to be Successful

  • Advanced degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, software, or a related technical field
  • Experience with OPIR sensors, data, and mission data processing
  • Experience with weather or other environmental sensors, data, and mission data processing
  • Experience working in an environment with multiple contractors, maintaining protection of intellectual property
  • Experience working across the OPIR Enterprise, including other external government agencies
  • High level of innovation, creativeness, and initiative
