About the Role:

This position is responsible for working directly with developers, builders, and planning boards to help ensure that our local OSP Engineering teams are aware and prepared to install the needed facilities in time for services to be activated when customers are moving in and determining which provider they are going to choose. This person will work hand in hand with our local Engineering, Planning and Construction teams to ensure that we meet our commitments and milestones in order for us to be proactively prepared to provide services in a timely manner. Having the knowledge of designing and developing moderately complex Outside Plant equipment installation, modifications, and upgrades and/or construction activities would be helpful in knowing who the owners of said task belong to. This position will work on problems of complex scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors and will work closely with OSP Field Engineering on orders requiring construction to support the ordered product. Must have at least two years of telecom industry work experience or Engineering degree (EE, Civil, preferred). PMP and/or Six Sigma certifications is preferred but not required.

What You'll Do:

  • Build relationships throughout the State with Developers, Builders and Planning and Zoning Boards to learn quickly about new growth opportunities (Subdivisions).
  • Work with the appropriate Engineering teams to ensure the design line setup and staking specifications, and cable and line extensions are completed in a timely manner, positioning Windstream to win more of our new Market share.
  • Assist in the planning, analysis, and recommendations in support of new construction of outside plant network structures and facilities, including digital loop carrier systems and technology.
  • Organize complex activities for the development, implementation, and maintenance of OSP engineering projects.
  • Utilize a wide range of experience, sound engineering practices, and company objectives to resolve issues in creative and effective ways.
  • Utilize a high level of communication and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships.
  • Perform engineering design evaluations including cost-effective utilization of materials.
  • Perform administrative work relating to projects and assignments.
  • Promote a positive change in the company's business strategy through achievement of customer and internal specific objectives and technological innovation of practical and profitable nature.
  • Communicate with city, county and state permitting agencies.
  • Assess situations, seek multiple perspectives, gather additional information, if necessary, identify key issues, to solve complex problems.
  • Conduct 30% of work in the field and 70% in the office on average; varies per market.
  • Two years of telecom work experience or degree in Engineering (EE or Civil preferred).
  • General knowledge of accepted engineering practices and accounting procedures.
  • General knowledge of aerial and buried cable placement and splicing methods for copper and fiber, feeder, and distribution cable pair design.
  • Demonstrate proficient verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize daily tasks, and perform successfully in a fast-paced environment.
  • General knowledge of JobTrac, J.D. Edwards, GComms and CAD/Esystems (Microstation); preferred not required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors in various climate and around heavy equipment.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Position is not eligible for relocation

Minimum Requirements:

College degree in Engineering or a related field and 3-5 years professional level experience with 0-1 year supervisory experience; or 7+ years professional level related Engineering/Technical experience with 0-1 year supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and professional level related Engineering/Technical experience required. This is a safety sensitive position. Professional Engineer certification required.
