Job Introduction
Magna New Mobility is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer who will be responsible for defining and documenting system requirements for products and projects. The Sr. Systems Engineer will also ensure that the company's systems and products meet the required functional safety standards. Additionally, this position will work closely with cross-functional teams including software, hardware, mechanical, and electrical engineers to integrate and validate various vehicle systems, including but not limited to Steering, Brakes, Chassis, Electrical, and AD systems. This position requires a broad understanding of automotive systems, and a strong background in sensor technologies and system integration. This position will coordinate and collaborate with Magna's internal and external departments and suppliers. This role will be hybrid onsite in our Troy, Michigan location.
Major Responsibilities

  • Evaluation of technologies and product designs with compliance to scientific principles, engineering principles, company standards, customer requirements and related specifications
  • Support the development of innovative components and modules from the initial concept phase through the complete development process including design engineering, validation, prototyping, testing, and evaluation of the proposed production capable process and business case
  • Design and conduct research programs; applying theory and principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, electronics, heat transfer and materials
  • Analyze engineering results and propose product changes to determine feasibility, improvement of components and systems and functional/performance specifications
  • Correlate experimental data to simulation data
  • Maintain innovation project schedule by monitoring project progress, co-coordinate activities, calculating time requirements, sequencing project elements and resolving problems
  • Interpret technical specifications from OEMS
  • Build core systems FMEA and DVP&R
  • Developing and maintaining requirements documentation.
  • Collaborating with the teams to ensure that the system requirements are properly integrated into the overall system design.
  • Developing and maintaining traceability matrices to ensure that all requirements are properly tested and verified.
  • Participating in vehicle-level testing and validation to ensure sensors are meeting performance requirements and specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to sensor integration and performance.


Knowledge and Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, including but not limited to Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, Aerospace, and Robotics.
  • Automotive OEM or Tier-1 experience preferred.
  • Familiar with databases, such as DOORS
  • Familiar with version control, such as GitHub and Jira
  • Experience in-vehicle communication protocols including CAN/Ethernet/Serial
  • Proficient in automotive development tools such as CANape, CANalyzer, and Matlab
  • Proficient in limit handling driving (high g maneuver, race track driving, emergency driving)


Work Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years experience as a Systems Engineer, preferably in the automotive industry
  • Knowledge necessary to write requirements and specifications
  • Hands-on experience in vehicle level requirements
  • Willing and motivated to learn new technologies and acquire additional skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others in a team environment

  • Ability to anticipate roadblocks, diagnose problems and generate effective solutions.
  • Ability to solve problems by developing innovative out-of-box solutions.
  • Willing and flexible to work on systems outside of core experience.


Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear and use hands to finger, handle, and feel. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms and have adequate mobility to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Responsible for working in compliance with the provisions of the Health and Safety Act as well as any rules or standards otherwise specified by OSHA or MIOSHA or any other government regulations. Expected to exercise caution in all work activities and report any unsafe conditions, injuries, or near misses to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Domestic and international travel will be required up to 10% of the time.
