What We’re Looking For:

We’re seeking a Senior Director of Engineering to join the leadership team that manages all technologies of edX Marketplace.  We need a technical leader that can define engineering vision for technology platforms that will enable learners to have a personalized and frictionless learning journey. 

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

  • Leads multiple engineering teams focused on maintaining and evolving the architecture and technology that supports edx.org, including customer data platforms, content management, and catalog integrations. 
  • Leads efforts for identity and access management, and machine learning recommendation models.
  • Partners with product leadership to define technology, vision, strategy, architecture, and roadmap that meets learner needs and is continuously aligned to, and enables, product strategy.
  • Responsible for overall software development operations across all platform enablement teams, including mitigating risks and redundancies.
  • Creates a framework for technical standards and procedures
  • Partners with Data Science and Product to design and run tests.
  • Leads engineering vision for a seamless product experience across the edX marketplace.

Things That Should Be In Your Background:

  • 7-10+ years of experience 
  • 3+ years in a director-level position
  • Experience coaching, training and mentoring people managers and individual contributors
  • A strong belief in key engineering principles and previous engineering experience
  • Experience working in environments that focus on Value Mindsets and strive for Product-Engineering partnerships
  • Seasoned integration architect with experience integrating enterprise-level applications
  • Experienced with Content Management Systems (CMS), with prior experience with Wordpress or Contentful

Other Attributes That Will Help You In This Role:

  • Experience delivering paid and organic marketing, sales, and product catalog software solutions in a data driven B2C and B2B SaaS company.
  • Experience leading a MarTech technology organization.
  • Experience integrating multiple technology stacks in a post-M&A organization.
  • Experience with business intelligence, data science and data products.
  • Experience building software products for a SaaS Education Technology company.
  • Prior background with Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A bias for action
  • Focused on people and process first and foremost
  • A strong belief in key engineering principles
  • Need to know what you believe in when making a tough decision
  • Need to articulate principles behind decision making

While this position is open to remote candidates across the U.S., we will prioritize those who live in the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area and who are available to come into our Headquarters in Lanham, MD two days a week.

The anticipated base salary range for this role is ($175,000 - $220,000), with potential bonus eligibility.  Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, budget for the position and cost of labor in the market in which the candidate will be hired.
