General Responsibilities:

Hitachi Astemo Americas, Inc is looking for an experienced Engineer to join our Suspension Team in the CAE group. The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for analyzing virtually our designs within the product development system. The position will be responsible mainly for the CFD/Structural analysis of new products to be design inside the group, helping to deploy new technology in the market.

Job Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities of this position includes, but is not limited, are:

  • Coordinating all CAE activity between Advanced Chassis group and responsible departments within the company (5%)
  • Calculation processing (30%)
    • Coordination of the procedure concerning targets and methods
    • Involvement in the development of calculation standards and practical application
  • Translate customer requirements into simulation inputs (10%)
    • Determination of customer requirements with regards to the structure of the FE model and review of specifications
    • Processing of calculations of sub-systems and components according to customer requirements considering internal guidelines
    • Facilitate and manage component, system level design and vehicle interaction cascading the requirement as necessary to the respective support teams
  • Preparation and evaluation design (10%)
    • Preparation of alternatives and improvements to the relevant design levels
    • Evaluation of design proposals and support with regards to to the development of test concepts
    • Involvement in correlations between calculation and test results
  • Support programs in terms of CAE-CFD and FEM analysis (30%)
    • Support programs and RFQs CAE tasks and checks their results. Propose optimization regarding strength and cost.
  • Documentation (5%)
    • Documentation of calculation results for design levels as CAE reports according to the released standard
    • Creation, provision and administration of technical documentation
  • CAE correlation (10%)
    • Conduct CAE correlation, supporting measurements setup and creating correlation reports
    • Comprehend and transfer of customer requirements to responsible activities within the company.



Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 3+ years of experience with CFD analysis of chassis related systems
  • STAR-CCM+, Simerics-MP+, or Fluent CFD software
  • CFD optimization tools
  • CAE modeling tools: HyperWorks &/or ANSA
  • Statistical software - Minitab
  • Proficiency in:
    • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
    • Microsoft Project
    • Data analysis and ability to draw conclusions to support problem solving using CAE tools.
  • Experience with product development inside OEM is a perk



Experience with the following is preferred, (not required):

  • CAE analysis codes: NASTRAN, OptiStruct, Abaqus, Adams
  • CAD software (i.e. CATIA V4/5, Solidworks)
  • Math software - Matlab/Simulink
  • Weibull analysis and other statistical evaluation methods
  • Structural fatigue theory, tools, and methods; DesignLife/nCode
  • Optimization tools and methods; OptiStruct & iSight



Additionally, the ability to work independently with minimal direction is required as are strong/effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to travel and support activities and coordination at the global level is required.

  • Occasional meetings outside of core business hours with other global Hitachi and OEM sites.
  • Manage / lead assigned CAE deliverables with minimal supervision.
  • Foster teamwork through good interpersonal skills
  • Exhibit strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Able to share analysis, findings, inferences etc. through excellent communication skills- verbal & non-verbal.
  • Motivated & self-starter with ability to work remotely when required.
  • Prior program management or project planning experience is desired.



Education: Bachelor on mechanical engineering or equivalent. Master degree is preferable

Experience: 5+ years applicable experience in related field (CAE-FEM), would consider less experience with a Master Degree.

Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A

Working conditions:

Physical Demands: Required to sit or stand for long periods of time. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Have ability to work 40 - 60 hours per week.

Travel: Domestic and international may be required as needed.
