SQL Software Engineer - WMS Team
Our Opportunity:
Chewy is looking for a SQL Software Engineer to join our Pet Pharmacy Team located in Minneapolis, MN. Chewy’s mission is to be the most trusted and convenient online destination for pet parents and partners everywhere. Within Chewy, the Chewy Health team is focused on redefining how vets and pet parents care for their pets and are on a multi-year journey to build a set of new pet parent and veterinarian facing services that make it easier to keep pets of all shapes and sizes leading healthy, happy lives.
Chewy’s Warehouse Management System team is focused on building, scaling, and maintaining the software necessary to run our Pet Health Pharmacy Fulfillment Centers (FCs). As a member of the Chewy team, you will deliver functionality in the Pet Pharmacy business that enables our FCs to provide world-class customer experience, such as the ability to ship an order within an hour of it being placed.
As a Developer on the WMS team, you will be responsible for maintaining, expanding, and scaling Chewy’s warehouse management systems (WMS) capabilities. You will work on everything from SQL performance tuning to creating completely new workflows. You will have the opportunity to be part of a high performing engineering team with sound knowledge of business processes that include supply chain, and fulfillment.
What You'll Do:
- Design, develop, and maintain implementations using SQL Server stored procedures.
- Document code customization in compliance with established standards and practices
- Manage deadlines by balancing deliverables from multiple projects, production support, and system administration tasks.
- Partner with DBAs, Infrastructure Engineers, and DevOps to monitor, tune, and improve system performance.
- Work with and advise both business and technology teams (internal and external) on how best to implement desired features and enhancements.
- Ensure that technical solutions follow best practices, are reliable, are easily maintainable and are scalable under sustained load.
- Collaborate to identify, isolate and resolve malfunctions related to software.
- Drive innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development.
- Resolve issues impacting our business teams.
- Provide training to Business Analysts/Subject Matter Experts as needed.
- Suggest / Define test cases for solutions and assist QA Analysts as needed.
What You'll Need:
- Bachelor’s degree (MIS or CS preferred) or equivalent work experience
- Experience with relational databases such as MS SQL / Oracle / PostgreSQL
- Effective troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Strong analytical abilities and a strong intellectual curiosity
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong time management and organization skills
- Must be team oriented and have a customer service mindset
- Self-driven, able to work independently or within a team setting
- Results oriented and adaptable
- Ability to travel on occasion
Bonus:
- Exposure to Korber/HighJump or any Warehouse Management System
- Experience with T-SQL
- Experience with Atlassian suite of tools (JIRA, Confluence, HipChat)
- Development experience with enterprise applications
- Exposure to e-commerce/ retail
- Experience with Scrum, XP or other agile methodologies
- Experience working directly with non-IT business partners
