We are looking for developers and engineers with a curiosity mindset who are driven to learn, team oriented, self-starters, and love rising to a challenge and picking up new technologies in support of our Investments business unit. Nationwide Investments manages the invested assets of Nationwide - supporting our property and casualty and financial services companies. Additionally, Nationwide Investments sub-advises certain fixed income mutual funds and third-party accounts. Assets under management are in excess of $100 Billion.

Ideal candidates will have the following skillsets and characteristics:
  • Strong agile foundations and background

  • Strong communication, people interaction, and self-motivation skills
  • Thought leadership with strong ability to influence others

Technical Skills:
  • Java development (Spring Boot)
  • Microservices & REST APIs
  • AWS Products (EC2, EFS, IAM, s3, CloudFormation, etc.)
  • Kubernetes
  • CI/CD
  • SQL/ETL experience is a plus
  • Python is a plus

As a Software Engineer, you will focus primarily on providing high quality, efficient technology solutions to business partners by crafting new software applications or modifying and/or supporting existing packaged or custom-built applications. In this capacity, you'll analyze, code, configure, test, debug, document and maintain applications.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyzes, solutions, develops, tests, debugs, documents and deploys software according to standards in an agile environment.
  • Uses DevSecOps practices, tooling and techniques.
  • Drives continuous improvement and learning through ongoing training, practice and innovation.
  • Manages medium to large project priorities, deadlines and deliverables proactively.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to a Technology Manager/Director.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Completion of undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or other related degree. Technology experience or non-traditional technology certificates can be substituted for an undergraduate degree.

Experience: Four or more years of analysis and technology experience.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proficiency in one or more programming language such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript. Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle. Proven ability to tackle complex business and development problems. Ability to thrive in a team environment. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and Human Resources Business Partner.
