This position will support the Nationwide Financial Specialty Insurance team.

Technical Skills:
  • Ability to demonstrate a mastery of software development principles
  • Knowledgeable in front-end web development technologies and techniques
  • Determine, define, and facilitate the creation of processes required to keep application services available with 99.9% uptime
  • Front End - Java J2EE,
  • Back End - Java , AWS (Docker/Kubernetes), Spring Boot, JPA (Java Persistence API), Hibernate, Web Services
  • Nice to Have - Apigee, Angular, GIT, Maven, Concourse
Non-Technical Skills:
  • Proactively share information so that the right people are informed and aligned
  • Able to apply experience to recommend a course of action for new projects and efforts
  • Ability and desire to uplift others and help the team grow
Compensation Grade: F5 or can be filled at a lower pay band

As a Software Engineer, you will focus primarily on providing high quality, efficient technology solutions to business partners by crafting new software applications or modifying and/or supporting existing packaged or custom-built applications. In this capacity, you'll analyze, code, configure, test, debug, document and maintain applications.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyzes, solutions, develops, tests, debugs, documents and deploys software according to standards in an agile environment.
  • Uses DevSecOps practices, tooling and techniques.
  • Drives continuous improvement and learning through ongoing training, practice and innovation.
  • Manages medium to large project priorities, deadlines and deliverables proactively.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to a Technology Manager/Director.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Completion of undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or other related degree. Technology experience or non-traditional technology certificates can be substituted for an undergraduate degree.

Experience: Four or more years of analysis and technology experience.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proficiency in one or more programming language such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript. Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle. Proven ability to tackle complex business and development problems. Ability to thrive in a team environment. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and Human Resources Business Partner.
