Title:
Special Communications System Engineer

KBR is hiring a Special Communications (SC) Systems Engineer in Reston, VA. The SC Engineer is responsible for one or more aspects of the design, planning, coordination, development, testing, integration, deconfliction, and deployment of highly sensitive communications systems, services, and technical support.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop customized communications and technology solutions enabling clandestine technology.
  • Customize solutions for stand-alone and integrated network communication architectures for command, control, and data dissemination of sensitive developmental technical capabilities.
  • Integrate user equipment with a variety of short and long-range terrestrial, maritime, and Space-based radio frequency networks.
  • Customize technology solutions solving critical special communication capability gaps and emerging operational requirements.
  • Customize Special Communications compatible field sets, legacy field devices and emerging transceiver technologies.
  • Evaluate current and future requirements for integration into operational users' Concept of Operations (CONOPs).
  • Provide expertise across a range of communication methods to include, but not limited to, radio frequency characteristics, end-to-end encryption, data dissemination, Tag, Track and Locate (TTL), audio/video surveillance and/or others.
  • Develop and implement solutions solving radio frequency threats and vulnerabilities based on knowledge of devices and architectures supporting a user's CONOPs.
  • Coordination and deconfliction with DoD and IC mission partners for the use of sensitive technology.


Required Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Engineering, Information Technology, or related field. Master of Science Degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience.
  • Qualification within or direct experience with Department of Defense or Intelligence Community Special Operations.
  • Experience with cable and intelligence product writing.
  • Strong research skills with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to effectively interact with customers, both for program development and program status.


Travel: OCONUS travel may be required. (10%)

Security Requirements: Active TS/SCI security clearance w/CI Poly
