ESG supports a variety of government customers spanning technology domains, and is an extremely fast-paced, responsive development environment delivering new capabilities to customers rapidly and affordably. The ESG portfolio consists of a range of platforms and technologies including the X-37B, the world's first fully autonomous reusable spaceplane, which is on its sixth and most ambitious flight yet. You will be accountable for technical leadership, problem resolution, and engineering processes associated with developing flight hardware and software. As the Spacecraft Subsystem Chief Engineer , you will have a strong technical background across all spacecraft/aircraft subsystems including structure, mechanisms, propulsion, power, thermal, avionics, software, GNC (guidance, navigation & control), systems engineering and related analysis disciplines. Additionally, you will need to be able to dive into broad, minimally-defined design spaces and effectively drive technical integrity into design efforts while being mindful of cost and schedule.Position Responsibilities :

  • Provide support to mission rehearsals, operations, and lead anomaly resolution teams
  • Develop clear and concise presentation of complex technical issues and their associated resolution plans
  • Act as customer and consultant interface for technical information, anomaly resolution plans, questions, and actions.
  • Provide leadership to the Systems Engineering and Segment IPTs to drive successful execution and completion of products. Identify problems before they become crises and resolve them effectively.
  • Work closely with Program Managers, Program Chief Engineers and Segment IPT leads to maintain consistent design and project direction, develop policies, procedures and guidelines, and support the development of business and technical strategies for product improvement
  • Work closely with Program and IPT managers to enhance critical engineering skills and manage key personnel resources. Mentor and coach IPT leads, managers and technical leads.
  • Monitor and evaluate the program technical baseline. Chair and participate on Engineering Review Boards (ERB) and provide recommendations to the program office for actions presented at the Change Control Board (CCB).
  • Chair and participate on Technical Readiness Reviews (TRR) and Failure Review Boards (FRB).
  • Work closely with the Program Chief Engineer and Segment IPT leads to achieve balanced cost, schedule and technical decisions.
  • Prepare and present monthly briefings to internal and external executive leadership
  • Work proactively and independently in a fast-paced, demanding atmosphere

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options. This position requires a current Tier 5 (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) (U.S. Citizenship required) or requires candidate agreed to enter a Continuous Evaluation program. Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 12 or more years of engineering experience on high speed aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicles, Shuttle related programs, or highly autonomous unmanned systems
  • Current and active TS/SCI or a Top Secret with an SSBI background investigation

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Master's degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 5 or more years of demonstrated leadership developing, certifying, and operating flight hardware
  • In-depth experience with electrical design, analysis (including Worst Case Circuit Analysis techniques), and testing of developmental and flight hardware
  • Broad background encompassing structure, mechanisms, propulsion, power, thermal, avionics, software, GNC (guidance, navigation & control), systems engineering and related analysis disciplines
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and external customers
  • Excellent written and oral communication, presentation and interpersonal skills

Typical Education & Experience:

  • Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard
