Solutions Architect

Location: Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah (Remote work available from these states)

Primary Job Purpose

Architects provide authoritative advice to business executives and IT on how to best solve tough business and technical problems. Lead the investigation of new technologies (applications, systems, software, hardware, etc.) which are being contemplated to solve a problem, or when it is unclear which existing technologies to use or how to tie them together. The Architect will communicate, mentor and collaborate with development staff on the implementation of new technologies. The senior architect will work with varying individuals and teams of the senior staff and executive team.

Minimum Requirements

Competencies and Knowledge:
  • Demonstrated architecture experience in multiple business units or division and multiple technology fields.
  • Expert in a broad range of technology platforms and technologies and how they interrelate within the Cambia technology portfolio.
  • Possesses comprehensive understanding of competitor's products and related technologies how those products and technologies compare with existing technologies.
  • Understands and resolves highly sophisticated large scale or system level problems. Able to quickly and efficiently solve such problems using team resources to coordinate solutions.
  • Proficient at writing code to solve a broad range of problems of varying complexity.
  • Capable of leading multiple product teams to implement product strategies throughout engineering. Ability to actively support and influence product family objectives.
  • Ability to apply verbal, written and persuasive communication skills to influence others both individually and groups.
  • Proficient in utilization of audio/visual tools to effectively present to groups and capable of communicating technical information to other functional groups both inside and outside of the organization.
  • Ability to influence and lead project direction and work with peers to implement ideas and concepts.
  • Ability to work with business in their language to support and promote concepts.
  • Regarded as leader with vision on specific topics within Cambia.
  • Able to troubleshoot outside of their technology domain, applying company resources to coordinate solutions.
  • Ability to actively support and influence company objectives.

General Functions and Outcomes
  • Applies reference architecture and patterns to the architecture and design of technology solutions and services.
  • Actively participates in the review and governance of architecture quality. Assists in the development of architecture governance practices.
  • Leads in the process of setting future technical strategies and actively adjusts strategic direction for products in reaction to business needs or industry trends.
  • Accurately estimate resources and time scales needed to implement a program or projects or plan a service implementation.
  • Audits project status to ensure technical and process excellence.
  • Acts as a key resource to Cambia IT and to other functional groups on technical matters.
  • Actively partners with key internal stakeholders, customers and industry contacts to develop stronger understanding of industry trends/customer needs.
  • Oversees the design of the technology solutions based on project requirements, reference architecture and design patterns.
  • Receives general feedback from management, customers, or other external sources and translates that feedback into an overall technical direction.
  • Aligns individual project roles with direction to drive towards completion. Foresees future direction and aligns current activities with this direction. Takes ownership for updating own skills and technical growth.
  • Collaborates with management team to set overall technical and product strategies and integrates the overall business direction.
  • Provides overall technical leadership across entire organization in key areas of specialty.
  • Applies industry intelligence and shapes initiatives and standards.
  • Actively partners with other industry leaders, customers, etc. to develop sound business strategies to anticipate and influence industry trends.
  • Facilitates the adaptation of architecture in response to changes within the company or industry.
  • Identifies and interprets industry and technical trends to guide and set Cambia's overall technical direction in specific domains.
  • Champions strategies in anticipation of new market opportunities.
  • Challenges and refines Cambia's IT process and leads portions of Cambia's architecture processes to increase efficiency and productivity
  • Work with a wide range of technologies, including but not limited to C#/.NET Core, SQL, PL/SQL, Python, PySpark, Java, RESTful Microservices, APIs, AWS services, Gitlab, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, CQRS, XML, JSON, Linux, Oracle.

Normally to be proficient in the competencies listed above:

The Solutions Architect would have a Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or related/relevant field with an advanced degree preferred plus ten years in IT with a minimum of two years of technical leadership and architecture experience and at minimum of five years' experience evaluating business requirements and designing complete systems solutions in sophisticated environments plus strong business understanding including health insurance technologies and regulations. Experience in the health insurance industry, payer oriented processes and systems is preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work Environment

Work is primarily performed in a flexible office/remote environment. Work outside of normal hours and light travel may be required.
