The priorities of theSolution Architectrole are outlined below. To allowSolution Architects to focus on the variousprioritiesof their role a segmentation of their time will be allotted as follows.

• TheSolution Architects time will be spentassisting on and engaging directly on critical customer situations
• TheSolution Architects time will be spent on the other areas outlined below, such as creation oftrainingcontent for delivery to EEs SEshelping to develop the technical skills of our teams globally.
• Various other technical activities to include working with Product Engineering teams on post release activities, lab, reproductionsetc.

Summary

AsaSolutions Architectyou will be acting as a lead technologist and should have a broad understanding of technology; with a focus on VMware Products and technologies.As suchyou will be responsible forworking with ourcustomersto assist with resolution of complex technical issues. In addition, the Solution Architect will be responsibleforcreatingand developingadvanceproducttraining that will be targeted towardsVMwaretechnicalsupport staff across the globe.To be successfulin this role, youmusthave a good mix oftechnicalskills,businessacumen, and a strong desire to supportourcustomer.AsaSolutions Architectyouwill need to understandalltechnical aspectsofourproductsandsolutions.

The Solutions Architectwill also work with other VMware business unitssuch asEscalationManagement, Professional Services,ProductDevelopment, KnowledgeManagement, Product Managementto ensureproper problemanalysistowardsresolution as well as knowledge sharing to peersas well asknowledge content creation.

TheSolutions Architectwillhaveadomain levelofunderstanding in one or more of the following areas:

1) Infrastructure
2) Platforms
3) Desktops Architecture
4) Management

Proactive Work

• Ability to think past the products andunderstand the solutions being delivered to meet the business IT needs
• Effectively communicateany potential issues with thesolutions architecture to theproject team, third parties, GSSandcustomers.
• Maintain proficiency in VMware service offerings, value proposition, and representative case studies.
• Solicitcontinuous feedback frommultiple stakeholdersand effectively communicate toproduct development

Requirements

Deep level technical skills in one or more subject matter areasin VMware suite of products

Strong practical Unix or Linux systems administration skills is a plus

Familiarity withapplication software development for one or more of the Linux, UNIX (e.g. Solaris), Windows operating systems

Understanding of server architectures, including peripheral interfaces (SCSI, RAID, Ethernet) and multi-processor designs (SMP)

Familiarity with systems management concepts, processes and standards (e.g. SNMP); capacity/performance management and tuning; and storage and network managementa plus

Understanding of modern IT productiondata centerand Internet (ISP/ASP) hosting operations

5+ years of technical field experience

Ability to travel up to 33%to customer site

Case/problem escalation management

Excellent communication and presentation skills, including for non-technical audiences

Proficiency in multitasking and delivering results while ensuring quality work under pressure

Advanced troubleshooting andproblem-solvingskills
