We have an exciting opportunity for a Software Systems Engineer to join our team with JETS teammate company, Barrios Technology, Inc.
The Software Systems Engineer will:
- Monitor system integration and interface management and coordination
- Perform software product assessment for completeness of design and implementation throughout the full software development lifecycle
- Interface with NASA and spacecraft designer engineering teams
- Review lower-level software testing and verification
- Demonstrate excellent communication, collaboration, and coordination skills
- Maintain a professional relationship with the NASA customer and other NASA support contractors
- Work in a fast-paced, Agile environment
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications
Requisition Qualifications:

Engineer must have experience in multiple areas including:
- BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and ten (10) years of direct engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and eight (8) years of direct engineering experience, or Ph.D. and four (4) years of direct engineering experience
- Software Engineering Life Cycle
- Software Insight and Oversight
- Independent Verification and Validation
- Human Rated Communication and Tracking systems
- Command and Data Handling for Communication and Tracking
- Pressure Flow Control Systems
- Suited and Unsuited life support
- Data driven software systems and applications
- Writing/reviewing test and verification definitions
- Software testing and verification
- Use of web-based collaboration tools
- Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at various meetings
- Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision
- Excellent communication, negotiation and coordination skills and strong customer service attitude
- Leading a software development project across the full development life cycle
- Fostering and working in a collaborative team environment
- Proficiency with team collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams, WebEx, SharePoint, Windchill
- Must be willing to relocate to JSC area
Requisition Preferences:
- Knowledge of systems engineering principles and associated documentation
- Familiarity with:
- NASA/JSC engineering processes
- NASA/JSC documentation databases as well as typical systems engineering products
- Safety Critical Human-Rated Software Development Processes
- Software project management experience
- NASA software and systems development standards (incl NPR 7150.2)
- Fault Detection, Isolation and Recovery (FDIR) for Distributed Avionics Architectures
- Spacecraft Avionics and Software Architecture
- Agile software development
- ARINC 664, 653; SAE AS6802
- RTC DO178
- Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS)
- Data Validation
- Display creation
- Code Review
- Unit Testing
- Algorithm Design Document
- Run for Record test and results
- Proficiency with C/C++ coding
- Proficiency with Linux
- Proficiency with scripting languages such as Python

Essential Functions
Work Environment
Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
Physical Requirements
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).
Equipment and Machines
Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).
Attendance
Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
