As a member of the software engineering organization, this role supports the development teams to drive and orchestrate all activities that are required for regular deployments of key software applications.
The Software Release Engineer collaborates with other departments to ensure release train schedules are met, as well as establishes a high level of communication with all stakeholders on release status.
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage risks, dependencies, and resolve issues that affect release scope, schedule, and quality. Work closely with Engineering, DevOps, and QA to ensure that each release is completed with quality and meets established development standards for code management
  • Ensure that all Agile teams and stakeholders understand and are held accountable for release deliverables, scope, and timeline
  • Manage relationships and coordinate between different Agile teams, testing groups, and training teams involved in the overall product release cycle
  • Work closely with Product Management to reduce opportunity for change after scope is fixed for a given release
  • Facilitate regular status meetings, critical release ceremonies (release readiness / UAT feedback, milestone reviews, business Go/No-Go reviews), and communicate release progress to all levels of stakeholders
  • Own creation and execution of deployment plans
  • Manage version control, track software configuration changes, and approve software deployments to environments
  • Consolidate release notes from each team contributing to the release train
  • Guide the Agile teams to follow existing and updated release processes
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in MIS, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 3+ years of progressive previous release and/or IT project management experience
  • Experience with both waterfall and Agile project management principles
  • Solid understanding of SDLC and software release cycle
  • Works to achieve operational targets, which has moderate impact on the overall achievement of results for the team
  • Work is moderately supervised
  • Problems faced are difficult but typically not complex and requires some depth of analysis
  • Communicates information typically within the immediate team on matters that involve obtaining or providing information of direct importance to the team
  • May provide guidance and assistance to entry level and/or support professionals
  • Travel up to 10% as needed
