About the job
The Red Hat Satellite Product Quality Engineering (QE) team is looking for a Software Quality Engineer who is intrigued by how things work and constantly looks for ways to make them better to join us anywhere in the U.S. In this role, you will not just be a tester, you will also be a developer who designs, automates, and finds creative ways to solve potential problems. You will work on the Red Hat Satellite offering and related technologies, including Red Hat Insights or Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform. You'll be required to interpret test requirements for Red Hat Satellite customer use cases and develop innovative automated solutions for the testing of real-world customer workflows in test environments containing Red Hat Satellite.

What you will do

  • Design, develop, and maintain test environments and automated test suites for Red Hat Satellite
  • Participate in the test planning and product planning processes
  • Develop test cases and maintain a thorough understanding of the functionality of our offerings
  • Ensure continued quality of existing features and assess the quality of newly developed and planned features that align with Red Hat Satellite's and Red Hat's strategic direction
  • Automate new tests in Python using the pytest testing framework to be used in Jenkins jobs
  • Contribute to our test automation framework
  • Contribute to test tooling projects related to deploying test environments and infrastructure, automating test pipelines, reporting test results, etc.
  • Integrate your tests into a continuous delivery (CD) pipeline
  • Deliver clear status for testing areas in a timely manner
  • Explore, Identify and document new bugs clearly and accurately
  • Work in a fast-paced agile environment
  • Work with other teams internally


What you will bring

  • Experience developing automated tests using Python
  • Experience with Linux or UNIX systems
  • Experience with Git or other source control technologies
  • Jenkins, Selenium, Pytest (or any other automation framework) experience
  • Understanding of container technologies like Docker or Kubernetes
  • Interest in testing and investigating how things work internally
  • Ability to coordinate and help others solve difficult problems
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced project


The following are considered a plus:

  • Experience automating web application and automation testing tools
  • Configuration management, e.g., Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, Chef, or Puppet, experience
  • Experience with continuous integration (CI) or CD tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Travis and creating test pipelines
  • Experience using or participating in open source projects
  • Familiarity with Linux system management
  • Experience performing web interface automation using Selenium
  • Experience deploying, configuring, and maintaining virtualized or containerized environments
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related engineering field, or relevant professional experience
