We are currently seeking a Software/Firmware Engineering Manager to join the leadership team supporting Test Design Solutions within Hardware Engineering. The successful candidate will be collaborative, open, transparent, and team-oriented with a focus on team empowerment & shared responsibility, flexibility, continuous learning, and a culture of automation.

The manager will facilitate and promote improvement initiatives, sharing of lessons learned and best practices between programs. She/he will support technical oversight across both the Mission Systems and Space sectors, including independent reviews of major programs and support of proposals.She/he will administer the performance evaluation reviews and salary review processes

The manager will identify the capital assets, indirect, and training budgetsrequired for personnel to perform their statements of work which includes integration along with development.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for managing a team of Software and Firmware Engineers that support multiple contracts
  • Responsible for managing staffing levels and reporting status and metrics to IPT and Functional leadership
  • Work closely with other teams within the program across multiple disciplines and management professionals to ensure that the software lifecycle is accomplished with high quality and efficiency
  • Oversee and manage the quality and timeliness of the MS SW products, and identification and remediation of potential issues before they become problems
  • Annual engagement survey coordination
  • New business acquisition, proposal and special projects support
  • Support Functional Engineering initiatives
  • Assist with staff workload forecast preparation
  • Identifying and implementing new or improved tools and processes to increase team efficiency
  • Mentor Engineers on all phases of the Program
  • Creates, reviews, and maintains critical documentation
  • Strong interpersonal skills


Management experience required;

  • Recruitment and on-boarding of new software engineers.
  • Career development, talent management and performance management.
  • Resource management - ensuring supply and demand are balanced in a matrix organization
  • Coordinating program/project supports across organizations
  • Ability to develop and mentor early career engineers


Technical experience required

  • Design, development, test and integration of quality software.
  • Working as part of an Agile development team.
  • Ability to define existing processes and come up with alternative approaches


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 9-years of experience in software engineering OR a Master's degree in (STEM) with 7-years in software engineering OR a PhD degree in (STEM) with 5-years in software engineering
  • Familiarity with all phases of the software development life cycle including Software Design and Integration
  • Experience in technical leadership or management
  • Experience with Agile, Continuous Integration ,Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) process and practice
  • Experience with Agile leadership - product ownership, Scrum Master, expansion of Agile processes
  • Experience utilizing Software Configuration Management Systems (Git, ClearCase, etc.)
  • Working knowledge FPGA development process
  • Understanding of firmware design/development life cycle
  • Experience leading or managing within a team environment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOD Secret Level Clearance


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure to Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
  • Interest in understanding and working with hardware/software interactions in applied engineering environment
  • Strong people and technical leadership skills; experience leading a team
  • Strong team-building/partnership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to create inclusive teams with engaged team members
  • Demonstrated mentoring and coaching skills
  • Knowledge of Functional Homeroom processes (e.g., Staffing, Processes, Metrics, Training)
  • Ability to integrate, engage, and lead team to perform at top level of performance
  • Experience with JIRA for issue tracking
  • Experience with leading Agile software development
  • Experience as a SW Lead on a program


Salary Range: $137,000.00 - $205,600.00

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to basepay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO)for vacation and/orpersonal business.
