Department OverviewThe Unified Communications team has a mission to become the leader in creating a highly scalable software platform and communication applications for first responders and industrial workgroups. Our customers rely on these solutions to run their critical business operations in the public safety, manufacturing, and infrastructure sectors. Every single day, we are shaping the future of mobile workgroup solutions for public safety and industrial users worldwide leveraging Motorola’s rich heritage in this space. Our solutions include broadband Push to Talk (PTT), multimedia messaging, location based collaboration, video streaming with full interoperability with land mobile radio (LMR) systems. The products include client apps on Android, iOS, and Windows. Our backend software can be deployed On-Prem, in private data centers, or in a public cloud infrastructure.
Job Description
Site Reliability Engineering at Motorola Solutions is responsible for end to end automation of monitoring, deployment cycle, testing and performance evaluation. The engineer will create, maintain , support and improve complex private/public cloud operations for Motorola Solutions. This is a progressive and collaborative environment, therefore it is essential that not only the skillset, but also the personality match such an environment.
As an Engineering Manager you will :
- Lead team in automating monitoring of network performance, application performance and service integrity.
- Understand complex network and application infrastructure and build tools that helps engineers to monitor, triage and troubleshoot issues from the network all the way through the application stack in public and private cloud environments.
- Gain and disseminate deep knowledge of push to talk communications solutions
provided by Motorola solutions for ensuring reliability and maintainability of hardware, software processes, network facilities, controls, and security systems leveraged by the product.
- Own end-to-end availability and performance of key network and application services and build automation to prevent problem recurrence. Automate response to all non-exceptional service conditions.
- Lead by example, mentor the team and establish credibility through quality technical execution.
- Lead team in designing, developing and delivering software to improve the availability, scalability, latency and efficiency of Motorola’s services.
Qualifications:
- Experience with Networking Protocols (Layer3 to Layer7)
- Understanding of complex application flows and layers
- Understanding of Web services and microservices
- Understanding of virtualized environments
- Great communication skills
- Ability to tackle customer calls
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks and adapt to a constantly changing environment
- Expertise in any one programming language
Basic Requirements
Bachelors degree
At least 8+ years of software engineering experience
2+ years experience working as a lead/manager in a high tech environment.
Experience with a support role
