The Position

Software Engineering Manager

 

What We Need

Kareo is looking for a hands-on, tenacious and inspirational Software Engineering Manager who has experience managing high performing software engineering teams. A successful manager at Kareo will be able to demonstrate exceptional leadership skills by ensuring the team is making reasonable commitments, refining the team’s day to day processes and focus areas to continuously improve the team’s efficiency and effectiveness, and ensuring that the team is leveraging engineering and quality best practices.

Your Area of Focus

  • Provide leadership to enable a highly effective engineering team.
  • Partner with product managers on roadmap prioritization and the development of solutions that align with OKRs.
  • Drive technical best practices, quality, and execution on teams.
  • Ensure all code written is high-quality, extensible, scalable, maintainable
  • Mentoring and managing career growth of engineers
  • Identify opportunities and implement changes to improve processes and architecture.
  • Proactively identify and solve problems and remove blockers for self and team
  • Recommend solutions to meet customer needs and improve system performance and reliability.
  • Ensure the team is effectively executing system acceptance and validation activities.
  • Review technical architecture and implementations to ensure alignment to best practices and risk identification/mitigation.
  • Work with multiple product development teams on project analysis, technical design, and implementations.
  • Partner across multiple product development, operations, and cross-functional teams to drive successful outcomes.
  • Analyze project requirements and accordingly provide technical and functional recommendations.
  • Perform system failure analysis. Provide and implement corrective actions and solutions.
  • Timely and audience - appropriate communication of technical and project information
  • Write, review, and test code - 10-30% time

 

 

Your Professional Qualifications

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience.
  • 4+ years of technical leadership experience.
  • Servant-leadership focused.
  • Led engineering teams developing large-scale SaaS applications in an agile environment
  • Customer-focused and ability to drive technical solutions towards meeting customer needs.
  • Ability to partner with product and design leads to define and execute successful outcomes together.
  • Effectively communicate challenges and roadblocks/delays in a timely manner
  • Experience in leading software development teams in an agile environment through multiple successful product and technical releases
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and schedules to coordinate successful/timely releases and achieve quality objectives
  • Leader in establishing and driving technical best practices and standards.
  • Deep understanding of software quality practices.
  • Proven experience in the architecture, development, build, test, release, and maintenance of performant, scalable, and reliable products and technology
  • Ability to refine and translate functional/non-functional requirements to technical architecture and implementations.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences
  • Desire to blaze the trail on less-glorious engineering tasks that are important to the business.
  • Constructively dissatisfied with the status quo.
  • Deep passion and understanding of best practices including CI/CD, clean code, TDD, etc.
  • Professional experience developing distributed database-driven web-based applications with Java and the Spring framework or equivalent
  • Practical experience leveraging monitoring tools (APM, log aggregation, system analytics) to perform system analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and JavaScript frameworks
