We are growing fast and expanding our group of product teams dedicated to “Engage” - Intercom’s solution for conversational marketing and engagement. We consistently invest in building great products that work at scale - we recently shipped Transactional Messaging and Surveys along with a ton of smaller improvements across the platform. Our ambition is massive and we’ve only just scratched the surface - we are creating a product that supports all our customer messaging needs, leading the way on next generation approaches for relevant, personalised communication. You can help us get there!
We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to build and lead a product team in partnership with a Product Manager and Designer. Together you will shape the strategy and direction of your team and influence the broader Engage vision and strategy for years to come. You will directly manage engineers and be responsible for creating an engaging and inclusive engineering culture that delivers impact sustainably. You will support engineers in designing, building and managing systems that deliver billions of messages to the right people, at the right time and in the right place. What will I be doing? 🚀
Delivering new or improved product experiences that clearly drive revenue growth for Intercom.
Partnering with engineering, product, and design leaders to shape team direction and strategy.
Enabling your team to achieve high levels of productivity, performance and reliability.
Teaching, mentoring, coaching and being a role model for engineers and other engineering managers.
Creating a collaborative, inclusive and supportive team culture focused on fast, focused, high impact execution.
We recognise that sometimes these lists can appear as strict requirements, but that’s not the case. Even if you feel you have a subset of the experience below - that’s ok, we’d love to talk to you!
You are a people manager first and foremost, with a strong track record of growing engineers in their personal growth and career progression.
You have an eagerness to share and learn.
You lead Engineering teams to deliver impact in a sustainable way.
You have good stakeholder management skills, including with non-R&D stakeholders.
Our culture is open, friendly, and inclusive - and this is something we are proud of. We like to experiment, sometimes inventing things for the first time, but we stay pragmatic, starting small and simple in everything we do. We want to help people grow and do the best work of their career and we want everybody to work with co-workers who value kindness, optimism, and positivity.
We love people who genuinely want to learn and grow, and we take bets on high potential people on rapid trajectories. We’re opinionated by default, for example we run less software and ship continuously. We’re technically conservative and like to keep it simple, but where it means building better products we’ll double down on new technology like machine learning in a pragmatic way.
Help us build a world-changing product, a long-lasting company and the most effective R&D team possible. We want to build an organisation where people thrive, feel included, grow in their careers, and enjoy having high impact through their work and we need experienced engineering managers to help us grow. How will I be supported?
You’ll report directly to the Group Engineering Manager, who’ll start you off with a great onboarding plan.
You will have a close group of management peers to collaborate with and learn from.
We invest heavily in our Managers, supporting individual career development through training and coaching.
We are a well treated bunch, with awesome benefits! If there’s something important to you that’s not on this list, talk to us! :)
