Company Description

NielsenIQ, under the business unit of BASES Internal Software Applications team within the BASES Product Leadership organization supports automation initiatives at Nielsen IQ. These responsibilities include developing and implementing production solutions that enable BASES to efficiently deliver quantitative data supporting every stage of the product innovation process - screening and optimizing concepts to testing products and package designs, accurately forecasting sales and optimizing pricing and product line assortment.

The BASES Digital Acceleration Software Engineer is responsible for analyzing, developing, testing, and supporting highly complex application software. These software applications must be developed and maintained with high-quality standards and minimal defects

Job Description

The Software Engineer will be expected to analyze requirements and develop effective solutions within an agreed timeframe.

Specific responsibilities: 

Designs, develops, and documents software applications: 

  • Investigates and analyzes verbal and written requests for application software, interpreting application requirements to build highly complex applications. 

  • Writes technical documentation for routines and applications, facilitating their maintenance. 

Builds, tests, installs, and maintains software applications: 

  • Develops highly complex software code, which is maintainable, easy to use, satisfies application requirements and anticipates future needs through flexible design. 

  • Develops and executes application test plans, analyzes test results, and makes appropriate revisions to ensure the applications function as specified. 

  • Contributes to the planning for acceptance testing and implementation of new software, performing supporting activities to ensure that customers have the information and assistance they need for a successful implementation. 

Provides support to internal users and support staff: 

  • Investigates application incidents for missing or incorrect functionality. 

  • Assesses incident resolution and estimates application changes. 

  • Applies resolutions, leading to timely, error free revisions in applications. 

Performs configuration management tasks: 

  • Ensures application software components are archived in common repositories according to IT standards with appropriate documentation that reflects the progression from development to implementation. 

Works with and in some instances provides work direction to our vendor partners. 

Other Responsibilities

  • Follow Scrum framework / guidelines, including collaborating with Product Owners. 

  • Work alongside other developers on the team to elevate technology and consistently apply best practices.

Qualifications

Essential Skills / Experience: 

  • 2+ years of software development/engineering experience. 

  • Proficiency in two or more software development languages - .NET Core or .NET Framework, C#, PHP, Java Script, VB, JQuery, Angular, SQL, Python,DHTML and HTML. 

  • Knowledge of relevant operating systems and communication interfaces. 

  • Knowledge of software design and testing principles. 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication’s skills. Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to varying audiences. 

  • Comfortable interacting with various organizational levels. Excellent within a team. 

  • Self-motivated, takes the initiative to work independently, demonstrating lateral thinking and being detail-oriented. 

  • Shows enthusiasm and the desire to advance personally and professionally, including an interest in building upon operational process and product knowledge to better understand and support Nielsen IQ’s technology objectives.

  • Good Project and Time Management Skills. 

  • Good interpersonal ability and excellent customer service attitude. 

  • An ability to rapidly learn new tools and skills 

  • Attention to detail; commitment to quality control procedures

Preferred Skills / Experience

  • 2+ years of IT experience 

  • Understanding of database design principles. Database development experience using various DB platforms (e.g. Microsoft SQL Server, Postgresql). 

  • Experience with code management practices and standard source management systems (e.g. Git, GitHub, BitBucket, Visual Studio Team Services/Azure DevOps). 

  • Understanding of agile methodology and experience working with scrum framework. 

  • Experience working with onshore and offshore vendor partners 

  • Experience with writing reusable C# libraries, building custom RESTful APIs, and integrating 3rd party APIs

This position reports to BASES Internal Software Applications team Manager.

Location - Cincinnati, Oldsmar, Rochester or Remote.
