General Responsibilities:

Under the direction of higher-level engineer or department management, this position supports the design and development processes for an assigned engineering program. This position exercises independent judgment rarely and operates within established guidelines.

Job Summary: Includes the following (other duties may be documented and assigned by local management and some duties may not apply dependent upon the requirements of the position at each specific (HIAMS)AM site and/or the strengths of the employee and the needs of the company):

  • Support corporate objectives and design engineering goals and objectives for future development, growth and improvement of the company overall.
  • Work with the software engineering project team to support the design and functionality of software delivered to the customer.
  • Understand customer requirements, write software validation test plans and submit reports to the customer.
  • Facilitate the delivery of software validation documentation from the quality group in Japan to the customer while demonstrating good customer interface skills.
  • Support the development and implementation of engineering strategies and policies supporting the mission and expectations.
  • Support program initiatives in identifying product development opportunities, new business potential, and contract development related to department and company goals and objectives.
  • Assist with the development problem resolution and design of assigned program projects.
  • Assist with program tests, analyzing test data, and writing test reports to record operating performance.
  • Provide data to support product compliance with customer or internal specifications and applicable standards.
  • Help develop detailed engineering specifications for product development.
  • Track and report design changes for assigned programs.
  • Work alongside other program staff (engineering, sales, and test) as well as with customer engineers to accomplish and ensure set goals are met, schedules are maintained and problems encountered during development process are satisfactorily resolved.
  • Travel to customer locations supporting product development and throughout (s) for product reviews, testing, and change updates with periodic travel with customer to company manufacturing facilities (domestic and international).
  • Ensure legal compliance in all engineering product design activities.
  • May be required to serve as a liaison between the international design teams and customers.
  • Review and report project status to supervisor and/or department management regularly.
  • Consistently use exceptional customer service skills and work with all levels of staff and maintain strict confidentiality of information.
  • Maintain a safe workplace and follow all regulations and requirements related to safety and environmental compliance.
  • Follow all quality policy standards.



Knowledge skills and abilities:

  • Be proficient in software programming languages such as assembly, C or other high level languages;
  • Be familiar with automotive component and vehicle test procedures, including EMI/EMC testing;
  • Have a working knowledge of debuggers and emulation tools, CAN interface tools and other serial communication interfaces;
  • Be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily;
  • Be able to perform duties utilizing current company software applications;
  • Have excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication skills;
  • Perform duties in an ethical and professional manner.

Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science or electrical engineering or related are required. Has thorough knowledge of specialized engineering principles and practices

Experience: 3-5 years prior related experience preferred.

Working conditions:

Physical Demands: Requited to sit or stand for long periods of time. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Have ability to work 40 - 60 hours per week.

Travel: Domestic and international may be required as needed.

Work Environment: Primarily in a professional business office with exposure to testing areas and periodic exposure to manufacturing environments.
