Job Description
Responsibilities

Using in-house & third-party tools, build and support the live and linear pipeline for streaming video, optimizing video encoding, packaging, and delivery
Providing support for live events and other linear channels
Use requirements and modeling to work with Product Owners to implement smart technology solutions ad tools delivery premium quality audio and video experiences
Continuously learn, improve, and optimize processes and ways of working
Manage and maintain cloud-based content delivery and services

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
3+ years' experience in software development and web technologies.
Proficiency with languages such as JavaScript, Typescript, Angular, CSS, HTML
Understanding of server-side languages such as NodeJs
Experience in building real-time, large-scale, low latency distributed systems
Familiar with CI/CD pipelines and large-scale deployment
Deep understanding of OO Design Principles and Patterns.
Embrace open-source technologies
Technical experience with cloud-based technologies, specifically within architecture/infrastructure (AWS)
Understanding of TDD, ATDD and BDD and approaches
Understanding of containerization as it relates to Cloud (Kubernetes, Docker)
Key understanding of technology principles and work methods (Agile, Scrum, etc.).

Desired Characteristics

Experience working with digital video workflow and operations, and digital video technology development
Understanding of playback protocols such as DASH, CMAF/HLS
Knowledge with Server-Side Ad insertion (SSAI), transcoding and packaging
Knowledge of OTT video delivery pipelines including basic networking concepts, source origination, video ingest & encoding, and packing including encryption and DRM.

In addition to building and optimizing internal applications, Director of Technical Architecture Trevor Roberts is working on NBCUniversal’s carbon reporting tool to help move the company’s sustainability goals forward. Targeting carbon neutrality across global operations by 2035, NBCU is prioritizing sustainability, and carbon reporting will help support the programs increasing efficiency and reducing waste everywhere from film productions to office buildings. “We can set a standard in the entertainment industry for sustainability that will benefit generations to come,” Roberts said.

Embracing change for cutting-edge advancement

Senior Director of Data Science Robert Davis and his team have been at the forefront of forecasting and optimization, machine learning, natural language processing and deep learning, all contributing to the research, design and development of all of the company’s AdSmart products. “The AdSmart team and NBCUniversal will evolve to embrace ongoing changes and technological advances,” he said. Currently, Davis’s team is focused on “a particularly exciting program” — generating accurate scripts and metadata from video with the long-term goal of extending those capabilities to live content.

New tech offers opportunities for individual growth

In 2016, Reshma Jain was hired as a QA specialist for the NBC Sports app, and it wasn’t long before her leadership skills were noticed by her manager. “Slowly, all the requests started coming to me,” Jain said. “During the Olympics, we had multiple critical requests coming in, and my manager asked me to lead the prioritization and communication on when they would be executed based on the severity of each request.” In 2019, Jain heard about a new NBCUniversal app, Peacock. “I wanted to be part of the product from the start,” she said. “I was ready to take the next step leading the QA team.”

I was chosen for the Influence Talent Lab program to develop the skills I need to effectively and concisely communicate ideas and engage with stakeholders at all levels.
