The Role
GM's Vehicle Intelligence Platform (VIP) unlocks the ability to scale new software rapidly, seamlessly, and securely. The VIP group develops scalable vehicle level system architecture and integration solutions which enable efficient, real time implementation of the creative customer-facing features of tomorrow.
As an Embedded Software Engineer on the OTA (Over-The-Air) Updates Team, you will develop the vehicle-side software which enables all systems on the vehicle to be updated over the air quickly and safely. This software is the gateway enabling new innovative features, content, and improvements to be delivered to customers while maintaining vehicle system security.
Responsibilities
- Write software for vehicle-side functionality in C/C++
- Participate in discussions & reviews for requirements, design, and test cases
- Create software design artifacts using Unified Modeling Language (UML) techniques
Use cross-compilation techniques to compile designs for multiple embedded platforms
Perform software configuration management using Git and code review using Gerrit
Implement Unified Diagnostic Services (UDS) diagnostics over Ethernet (DoIP and Socket Adapter) and Controller Area Network (CAN) using C/C++ - Perform bench and verification testing
- Diagnose, debug, and solve issues related to the OTA vehicle software
- Work closely with teams from other groups to support triage and resolution of difficult problems in a timely manner
- Collaborate with System Engineers to refine understanding of requirements and identify opportunities for innovation
Additional Description
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Math, Physics, or Computer Science
- 2+ years of Engineering experience in a job-related area
- Proficient in C or C++ programming language or equivalent
- Proficiency in working with Linux and QNX platforms
- Strong, innovative problem-solving skills
- Ability to learn quickly and work independently or as part of a team
- High level of oral and written communication skills
- High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others locally and in a geographically dispersed team
Desired Skills
- Master's Degree in Engineering, Math, Physics, or Computer Science
- 2+ years of Engineering experience in a job-related area
- Exposure to working in any Agile development methodology (Scrum, XP, SAFe, etc.)
- Exposure to C/C++ programming language
- Exposure to configuration management software (GIT, etc.)
