The Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Distribution team is looking for a Systems Administrator with the passion for Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) to join us. In this role, you will partner with developers and release engineers to enable the hosting and operating of our services. As a Systems Administrator and SRE, you will help lead incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement activities, managing engineering efforts against service-level agreements (SLA), service-level objectives (SLO), and error budget; monitoring, alerts, and security practices will need to be implemented. You will participate in communities of practice to coordinate and influence the design of our hybrid cloud platform. In this role, you are expected to respond in a timely manner during a critical outage. We'll need you to be passionate about and an expert in helping Red Hat continue to produce world-class open source software.
What you will do
- Serve as an expert in building highly available, high volume infrastructure on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Red Hat technologies like Red Hat OpenShift
- Manage the Distribution Services, including monitoring and performance metrics
- Work with service owners to define service level indicators (SLIs), SLAs, and SLOs for the Distribution services, ensure they are met, and carry out remediation plans if they are not
- Identify single points of failure and other high-risk architecture issues; propose and implement more resilient solutions
- Implement disaster recovery processes
- Develop new features, scaling rules, configuration and deployment automation, monitoring, and self-healing processes
- Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for performing maintenance tasks, applying configuration changes, and remediating problems in our environment
- Use your excellent communication skills to communicate with other Red Hat engineers, and management across the globe
- Work in a fast-paced environment in a globally distributed team
What you will bring
- Experience with AWS technologies like CloudFront, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, CloudFormation, CodePipeline
- 2+ years of experience managing AWS-based services in a production environment
- Experience managing Linux-based systems
- Experience with enterprise system monitoring
- Experience with Ansible
- Ability to quickly learn and use new tools and technologies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, as you'll be working in a globally distributed team
- Demonstrated ability to quickly and accurately troubleshoot systems issues
- Ability to work on your own in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
Following skills will be considered a plus:
- Experience with software development using Python or Go
- Experience with Red Hat OpenShift or Kubernetes
