Software Engineer - Network Engineer

We’re looking for a Network Engineer to join Team Snapchat! As a member of this growing team, you will be in charge of the designing and implementing tools and processes to model, analyze, and monitor Snapchat’s global network performance, you will analyze, understand and manage customer impacting network events. You will evaluate third party and open source software, and lead Snap’s relationship with telecommunication companies and cloud providers around the world.
What you’ll do:
Partner with Engineering and Product Management to apply your expertise in quantitative analysis to see beyond the numbers and understand how users interact with Snapchat to help drive product and business decisions.
Collaborate with the Network Engineering team to automate various processes, build software infrastructure for network monitoring and analysis, aid in capacity planning and architecture change analysis.
Collaborate with cloud providers (GCP, AWS, etc.) and telecommunication companies to create a world class service quality for Snap users, this involves defining and influencing strategy within and outside the team.
Drive operational excellence projects to improve network performance and reliability. Troubleshoot complex problems and develop innovative solutions.
Build best data analytics practices to drive and influence company data culture.
Build world class infrastructure and mobile networking features on both Android and iOS.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to initiate and drive projects to completion with minimal guidance.
Possesses data modeling skills and understanding of user behaviors and ecosystems.
Able to identify new opportunities and new product levers to help user growth and user engagements.
Able to communicate product insights and experiment results to product teams and help drive data-informed decisions.
Minimum Qualifications:
BS/BA degree in Computer Science or equivalent years of experience
Experience with network devices (routers, switches, load balancers) and an understanding of network routing protocols
Knowledge of networking and distributed systems
4+ years experience in Systems programming, QUICK, Cronet, UDP/TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, SPDY, DNS, and load balancers
5+ years of experience in C/C++, or Java.
Knowledgeable with SQL databases
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a product-focused role at a social media and/or mobile technology company
A team player who can collaborate with engineers, product managers, and other cross-functional teams
An understanding of Snapchat with great product sense and product understanding
Strong experience with causal inference techniques, experimental design and/or A/B testing
Excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication
Ability to communicate the results of analyses in a clear and effective manner to a senior audience
