The Portals team at Credit Karma enables our product engineering teams to deploy product experiences at scale which serve our 100 million+ members. To accomplish this, the Portals team develops Thrift and GraphQL services that leverage Google Cloud Platform (GCP) technologies and run in Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE). We are responsible for mission critical components and infrastructure at Credit Karma and are constantly looking for ways to make the platform better. In this role, you will be instrumental in building a reliable and capable product platform, innovating and improving best practices, automating at scale, and being a strong advocate for product engineers. The successful candidate would have passion for development velocity through automation and CI, a desire to build deep technical expertise, and enjoy the challenge of owning mission critical components.

What you’ll do:

  • Collaborate closely with security, platform and product engineers to understand customer needs, pain points and drive innovations to improve reliability and efficiency while keeping a secure by design mindset
  • Design and implement best practices and improve automation to scale the team to manage a growing number of clusters
  • Improve processes, testing and CI integrations to catch issues before they affect production and drive a culture of operational excellence

  • The Portals team owns critical services that power meaningful parts of the product. The work we do matters a lot to the entire company.

Minimum Basic Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of programming experience 
  • 5 years of experience in microservices architecture, managing large scale production services
  • Prior experience building services deployed  at scale
  • Expertise in one of more programming languages such as typescript, scala, java, etc. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A desire to be part of a great adventure and take part in shaping the future of the company
  • Experience with gitops, continuous deployment or managing Infrastructure as code 
  • Ability to express complex ideas in a simple manner and ability to create well thought out technical designs and rollout/migration plans for mission critical components
  • Experience with writing production grade and scalable services in Scala and/or Typescript
  • Passion for automation and a drive for continuous improvement
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and provide mentorship and share knowledge with other engineers
