Chewy is looking to hire a Software Engineer based in Minneapolis, MN. The ideal candidate succeeds in a fast-paced environment, is self-motivated, and has a passion for both business and technology. You will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining Java based components and interfaces. What You'll Do:

  • Design, build, and maintain interfaces which enable front end products to provide state of the art experiences by connecting them through the Chewy Microservices
  • Lead and participate in medium to large scale projects by reviewing requirements, translating requirements into technical solutions, gathering information, writing and developing code, conducting unit testing, communicating status and issues to stakeholders, troubleshooting open issues and bug fixes, and ensuring on time delivery and handoff
  • Perform design and code reviews
  • Create and implement a shift left mindset in terms of testing and test driven development
  • Work with a geo distributed team
  • Work in an agile development environment, collaborating with Application Development and Architecture teams
  • Bring industry best practices in terms of technology and process
  • Drive innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development
  • Set engineering excellence to the team and have the drive to focus on scalability, resiliency, high availability & performance of applications
  • Hire, educate, mentor, and help peers contribute to our internal engineering community
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders and service providers to pursue use cases and assist in ensuring our internal customers' knowledge of our technology remains ahead of the curve


What You'll Need:

  • 5+ years of experience as a software engineer
  • Strong knowledge and proven expertise with Java
  • Be a Hands-on Engineer who will spend a significant percentage of their time writing code, creating a Framework structure for the team
  • Experience with Web Services (JSON, REST, Spring based REST services)
  • Strong understanding of Java concurrency, concurrency patterns, experience building thread safe code work on AWS cloud-based environment and experience building cloud native applications
  • Experience with messaging products like Kafka or ActiveMQ
  • Strong background with modern tools and environments
  • Working Experience with distributed SCM (GitHub a plus), DevOps, AWS
  • Experience working across fully automated stacks in a CI/CD ecosystem
  • BS degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience


Bonus:

  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment
  • Experience with Github and AWS or other Cloud technologies
  • Experience building applications using AWS services
  • Working knowledge on React Framework
  • Experience in API development or engineering at scale
  • Ecommerce experience
