The Software Engineer II will be responsible for designing, engineering, and maintaining full-stack web applications using client/server-side JavaScript (vanilla js, node js, Express, React, Vue), CSS (LESS SCSS), HTML/Handlebars, SQL, and TDD. This is a “hands-on” position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Must be capable of working independently and collaboratively.

What you will do:

  • Design, engineer and maintain full-stack web applications using client/server-side JavaScript (vanilla js, node js, Express, React, Vue), CSS (LESS SCSS), HTML/Handlebars, SQL, TDD
  • Familiarity with node package management and JavaScript related build/compiling tools (npm, webpack, etc.) 
  • Identify, propose and develop technical solutions to problems and tools that benefit the organization, with an eye toward creating efficiencies and automation in existing processes and tools 
  • Assess the technical feasibility of proposed projects, with an eye toward making them scalable while delivering solutions quickly
  • Estimate the time and technologies needed to complete the development phase of projects 
  • Work independently and with a team of fellow devs in paired and mob sessions 
  • Communicate with internal customers and stakeholders on projects and incorporate feedback, with a desire to meet their needs 
  • Develop high-quality code following established development processes 
  • Keep abreast of the latest developments in Internet technologies and possess the ability and desire to quickly learn new languages, frameworks, and skills as they are needed 
  • Act as a subject matter expert / have a willingness to learn, own, and maintain existing and to-be-developed products 
  • Self-motivation, accountability, and ability to take full ownership of tasks and deadlines 

Requirements:

  • Strong communication skills (technical, interpersonal, written, and verbal) 
  • Ability to mentor and teach other developers and collaboratively work with peers 
  • Ability to own a project from start to finish, delivering a high-quality product on time 
  • Advanced proficiency with using JavaScript (ES6+, Node, Express, React) (including libraries), HTML/CSS, and best practices to solve technical challenges 
  • Modern responsive web design experience (css grid, flexbox, advanced media queries) 
  • Experience with LESS or SASS including nesting, variables, and mixin functionality 
  • Experience of working in a structured development environment with build and configuration management tools 
  • Detail-oriented and able to work independently and in collaboration on both short-term tasks and long-term projects 
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously 
  • Demonstrate time management and completion of projects to a definite deadline 
  • Ability to self-troubleshoot technical problems and demonstrate problem-solving and resourcefulness but know when to ask for help 
  • Should be comfortable with Test Driven Development using jest, mocha, or jasmine 
  • Working with GIT, including contributing to and coaching via Code Reviews 
  • Experience with navigating a large layered repo structure with complex inheritance layers/imported variables and styles 
  • Experience with Mac OS/UNIX style terminal commands and basic bash scripts
