We are looking for a Software Engineer on the Engineering Insights team to identify and drive key analytics and engineering initiatives that improve Disney Streaming’s engineering ecosystem. You will be a crucial member of the Engineering Insights team, responsible for identifying and building solutions for insights that improve the reliability, performance, and user experience across Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu.

The Software Engineer role will be working on building software applications to improve the performance and reliability of our media streaming platform and applications. By creating real-time insights and observability tools, they will decrease the number of issues users experience. This will allow service teams to see how a new production canary deployment affects specific devices and users. This role will require a team to write code consuming our events from both services and clients and using trend analysis with the correct ruleset to implement anomaly detection with root cause analysis. This will allow safer production deployments (both services and clients) while enabling quicker responses to incidences.

Whether you’re in New York, California, Seattle, or remote, we provide opportunities to elevate your career and to transform an industry.
Responsibilities :

  • Map streaming process and job workflow to understand engineering ecosystem and user journeys
  • Identify issues that impact performance, reliability, and user experience
  • Triage and determine the root cause of ecosystem reliability engineering events
  • Partner with cross-functional teams in identifying, defining, supporting, and improving reliability and performance
  • Develop measurement frameworks to quantify reliability events to drive impact-based prioritization
  • Create a monitoring system to manage unsupervised engineering events

Basic Qualifications :

  • BA or BS in a quantitative field (Business, Math/Statistics, Economics, CS, Engineering, or similar)
  • 5+ years of experience in an engineering, data analysis, solution architect, or similar role
  • Familiarity with SDLC processes
  • Strong analytical skills and innate curiosity to troubleshoot and dive deep into complex technical issues, underscoring iteration to identify insights and communicate them effectively to senior leadership
  • High familiarity with recent data platforms such as Databricks, Jupyter, Snowflake, Datadog, Splunk
  • Past experience of identifying key value drivers in a direct to consumer application
  • Excellent written and verbal executive communication
  • 4+ years work experience using SQL and Python/R
  • Ability to think strategically, analyze and interpret market and consumer information

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in streaming industry, knowledge of client and server side architecture a plus
  • 3+ years of Python, Spark, Pyspark or Scala
  • Master’s degree in computer science or equivalent and 5 or more years of related experience in application development
