Your Opportunity

You will be at the heart of New Relic's engineering process building and maintaining a Unified API Platform. You will help as our team supports and guides internal teams in designing APIs that are customer and developer-friendly, and you will build the tools that support rapid API development inside New Relic without sacrificing quality.

What You'll Do

As a Software Engineer on the Unified API Team, you will:

  • Build, maintain, and scale our back-end services written in Elixir
  • Occasionally add new features to existing services across many languages and technology stacks
  • Regularly brainstorm or pair with peers, and provide feedback on each other's work
  • Take the lead to explore new and innovative ideas
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and bake stability into everything you do to ensure a healthy work-life balance
  • Contribute improvements to our team processes
  • Collaborate across functions and teams to bring the best solution to market
  • Participate in an internal support rotation to help other engineers at New Relic troubleshoot their use of our services



Your Qualifications

Must-have:

  • 2+ years of professional work experience in software engineering
  • Excitement about using Elixir and gaining expertise in functional programming
  • A curiosity about GraphQL and believe in the importance of good API design
  • Comfortable shipping incrementally and working on a distributed team
  • Ability to communicate clearly in writing and over video conference


Nice-to-have:

  • Experience using Elixir or other functional languages (Elm, Haskell, Scala, etc)
  • Experience building and scaling resilient high efficiency services
  • Experience designing GraphQL APIs
  • Experience working in systems composed of many distinct services or applications working in concert
  • Prior experience in technical support
