About the job
The Red Hat Customer Portal team is looking for a Software Engineer to help enhance our Drupal-based social and collaborative content delivery platform in the U.S. In this role, you will work with internal and customer-facing software to develop new features, perform bug fixes, refactor existing code, and write test automation. You'll need to be comfortable developing custom modules, using Drupal's various APIs, integrating third-party APIs, and collaborating with multiple development teams toward common solutions. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.
What you will do

  • Design, implement, and extend internal and customer-facing software
  • Ensure ongoing quality of the application codebases through bug fixes, refactoring, and test automation
  • Collaborate with other developers across multiple departments and technology stacks for cross-team projects
  • Work with internal stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical tasks with the ability to conceptualize the implementation steps cleanly and efficiently


What you will bring

  • 3+ years of Drupal application development experience
  • Direct development experience with Drupal 8 and Drupal 9
  • Experience building scalable and performant sites
  • Experience developing modules that perform well at scale or solid familiarity with the problem space, including caching, graceful failure, etc.
  • Knowledge of configuration management and configuration split
  • Solid knowledge of Twig templating in Drupal
  • Good understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) principles in PHP
  • Understanding of services, interfaces, event subscribers, class inheritance, dependency injection, and how Drupal makes use of them
  • Familiarity with the concepts of object and content delivery network (CDN) caching
  • Ability to collaborate with a team using Git
  • Experience with local development using Docker or Podman
  • Experience with Linux or UNIX platforms
  • Ability to write clear documentation for technical and end users
  • Creative, motivated, and capable of working on your own and as part of a globally distributed team
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Solid customer focus and commitment to quality
  • Good communication skills; ability to write well, present demos, and verbally discuss information with stakeholders
  • Ability and eagerness to collaborate with quality engineers and write clear testing instructions


The following are considered a plus:

  • Drupal.org and other open source contributions
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field; engineering or computer science background
  • Layout builder and custom block development experience
  • Solid practical API building experience
  • Basic understanding of Drupal's JavaScript behaviors system
  • Basic understanding of ES6 and modern JavaScript frameworks like React.js or AngularJS
  • Experience with debugging applications with tools like Xdebug
  • Proficiency in project management software like Jira
  • Familiarity with sprint planning and ability to post thorough communication updates in tickets, services, or third-party integrations
  • Experience collaborating on GitLab CI or equivalent scripts
  • Experience with Jenkins
