The FlashBlade team at Pure is seeking an experienced engineering manager to help us scale up engineering productivity to the next level. With the FlashBlade product, we build a scale-out all-flash file and object store designed for the modern world. To understand how our customers work with data, we deeply immerse in AI, modern backup, log analytics with Splunk and Elastic, data pipeline with Kafka, cluster computing with Spark, and many more use cases. The Engineering Productivity team tackles many engineering problems ranging from complex systems analyzing billions of log lines per second to creating simple and intuitive tools to increase developer velocity. 

IN THIS ROLE, YOU'LL…

You will drive software development for infrastructure services and applications. FlashBlade runs complex and high scale services developed and managed by the Continuous Integration, Tools and Infrastructure team. The team develops, deploys and runs all of the internal services. The engineering team works on a wide breadth of technologies with a mission to make development fun and rewarding for all engineers.

The team works on building highly distributed systems software using Docker, Spark, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis, Databases, and Orchestrated Deployments. The team also builds data pipelines for the massive amounts of internal infrastructure. They also work on developing the quality-of-life improving Grafana Dashboards and tools for all of Flashblade Engineering.

The team is looking for a leader who can take on complex challenges and scale for the future. Be it the internals of the Intelligent CI system that we use and support or the concurrency issues at scale in our massive automatic defect identification deployment processing 50 million lines per second!

This role requires understanding the dynamics of global R&D with the ability to implement Pure values and leadership attributes. You will be supporting and influencing multiple stakeholders across the business unit. You will be responsible for the creation of internal services and will partner with various other software teams. 

  • Drive the software development and delivery of infrastructure services and applications
  • Provide technical direction and mentoring to employees on your team to achieve successful project outcomes.
  • Responsible for the creation of internal services partnered with various other software teams
  • Define and execute on strategies for test driven development at scale
  • Measure and drive a balance of efficiency and productivity improvements
  • Work with the technical team on the product definition and schedule, manage appropriate portions of the roadmap. Foresee, resolve and mitigate dependencies, contentions and risks towards end to end delivery, and enhance team awareness of unknown risks.
  • Drive definition, content, schedule and engineering deliverables and set it up for success
  • Ensure proper work staffing, schedule correctness and predictability
  • Improve the work delivery by partnering with stakeholders on separating the “must haves” from the “nice to haves”.
  • Own the appropriate portions of budget, handling all HW needs / requirements and capex and opex asks
  • Optimize team processes to improve quality, productivity, and responsiveness to feedback and changing priorities

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BRING TO THIS ROLE...

  • 3+ years of engineering management experience and technical leadership
  • Experience in the development and running of high scale and distributed software services
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, developer tools and automation frameworks
  • Working knowledge of software development in Python and/or JAVA or other relevant programming languages
  • Experience developing and delivering storage, networking, security or database systems and appliances is a plus
  • Proven expertise in managing development and schedule throughout the entire SDLC, including investigation, design, execution and delivering to market on schedule, and ensuring feedback loops from customers into development 
  • Strong customer focus
  • Experience working in an agile (Scrum) environment with short cycles
