Our Opportunity:

Chewy is looking for multiple Android Developers to join our Native Android Mobile Apps Team. The ideal candidate succeeds in a fast-paced environment, is self-motivated, and has a passion for both the business and the technology. You work independently but understand the importance of teamwork and mentorship. You need to be comfortable contributing to every aspect of shipping a consumer app - whether that's testing, development, or improving build scripts. What You'll Do:

Contribute to the Chewy.com native Kotlin Android ecommerce app
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, architect, and ship new features
Leverage modern architectural patterns, third party libraries, and Kotlin to deliver new features
Have input on architectural decisions and improvements to core internal Android libraries
Continuously discover, evaluate, and implement new mobile technologies
Work with outside data sources and APIs (gRPC & REST)

What You'll Need:

To have worked on consumer facing Android apps
A strong grasp on the development, testing, and release lifecycles of mobile apps
The ability to clearly and effectively communicate ideas in a team environment
Intimate familiarity with Android SDK, testing frameworks, and build tooling
Experience with Dependency Injection, modern architectural patterns, and Android best practices
Passionate about learning and building with the latest and greatest in Android
Working knowledge of the mobile landscape, architectural patterns, trends, and emerging technologies
A sound understanding of Git, branching strategies, pull requests, and continuous integration
Work well in a distributed team environment
Position may require travel

Bonus:

You’ve contributed to open-source projects or given talks at conferences
Experience with web technologies and service-oriented architecture
Doing things “the right way” makes you happy on the inside

Making an impact from day one

Being an entry-level engineer doesn’t mean working on entry-level projects. Recently, Shinde, an engineer on the delivery experience team, created an API that connects customer’s queries with shipment statuses, a project that could have a significant impact on Chewy’s bottom line. Shinde credits an environment of continuous learning that has, to date, exposed her to more than a dozen new languages and tools.

My exposure to popular and effective software has been critical to my development as an engineer, and my team is always ready and willing to answer my questions.

Building products to support pets — and their people

Natalie Liem knows her work on Chewy’s CarePlus pet insurance and wellness plans makes life better for both people and their pets. “Many friends and family members have struggled with unexpected vet bills or have had to compromise routine pet care because of the expenses entailed,” she said. By making pet insurance and wellness plans more accessible, Liem is hopeful for the future of pet health. “By working with a trusted brand like Chewy, pet parents can feel less burdened by the ‘what ifs’ of affording veterinary care.”

Chewy can offer pet parents so much in both new products, and through connecting existing, established parts of our site.

What’s the vibe like in the office?

Fast paced! We work in "doggy-years" here. It's a place where talent and hard work is valued and where team members can think big and can bring their dreams to life.

What projects are you most excited about?

I'd say our new onboarding program, which educates and immerses Chewy’s new hires in our business, mission, and Operating Principles.
