Overview

We are seeking a full-time Embedded Software Engineer with bluetooth driver integration, development and certifcation experience to join our Sensors and Controllers Software Team at our office in Olathe, KS. The Sensors and Controllers software team engineers a range of solutions for controlling cockpit display systems, interfacing with automatic flight control systems, and delivering satellite weather to navigation displays. Our range of expertise covers low-level embedded systems development all the way up the stack to the application layer. This team is embaring on an exciting, new project to add wireless datalink connectivity to the cockpit using technologies such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 4G LTE.

Essential Functions

  • Designs new software and performs maintenance, develops in C and Python
  • Tests software using debuggers, emulators and simulators; performs software releases and software quality assurance activities
  • May perform as a technical leader or Lead Software Engineer for derivative software project
  • Collaborates and adds value through participation in peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestions
  • Provides reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques
  • Performs technical root cause analysis and outlines corrective action for given problems
  • Serves as a mentor to less experienced software engineers (Software Engineer 1)
  • Estimates level of effort, evaluate new options of similar technology, offer suggestions to improve processes, and provide comments on some electrical design aspects
  • Applies Garmin`s Mission Statement and Quality Policy and enthusiastically exhibit a desire to see Garmin succeed


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor`s Degree OR Master`s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math, Physics or related field AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience necessary to develop moderately complex software in C, C++, C#, Java, assembly language, or other selected languages
  • Proficient knowledge, utilization and mastery of relevant software engineering tools (configuration management systems, build processes, debuggers, emulators, simulators and logic analyzers)



Desired Qualifications

  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Previous work or internship experience in design, particularly for consumer products
  • Candidates with Bluetooth, WiFi and DSP software development expeirence are highly preferred for this opening!
