Our Opportunity:

Chewy is hiring a Software Development Manager for our Pet Health team in Boston, MA. This is a high-profile position that will have exposure across the entire business, influencing the vision and implementation of architecture, design and features for this new and growing line of business. As part of a dynamic team, this role offers a tremendous opportunity for professional growth in the leading online pet retailer in the US. The role will allow you to act as an individual contributor while leading a team of strong engineers building services for Chewy’s new Pet Health initiatives. The role will have tremendous visibility in the technology & business organization of Chewy.

What You'll Do:

  • Manage and lead a team of 4-7 software and quality assurance engineers responsible for building Chewy’s new Pet Health initiatives
  • Collaborate with others in Engineering Management to drive best practices in software design, development, testing, and production deployment
  • Work with your product owners to manage the backlogs to support multiple teams within the Chewy Software organization
  • Deep dive into the technical details of our AWS hosted environment. Provide low-level tactical guidance as well as drive high-level design decisions. Build a culture of operational excellence
  • Establish strong working relationships at all organizational levels and across functional teams
  • Partner with our recruiting team to continue building your team and mentor the growth of the current talented team
  • Identify and manage priorities within the context of overall Chewy objectives

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (MIS or CS preferred) or equivalent work experience
  • Demonstrated history of implementing and managing significant software development projects
  • 5+ years of experience in Software Development as a software engineer or architect
  • Hands-on engineering leader who will spend good percentage of their time writing code creating Framework structure for team or reviewing code or debugging tricky issues
  • 3+ years of experience in Engineering Management
  • Proven delivery experience working under an Agile/Scrum methodology
  • Experience with designing, building and deploying scalable, highly available systems
  • Good communication skills with both technical and business audiences
  • Position may require travel

 Bonus:

  • E-commerce experience
  • Relevant Java ecosystem like Spring Boot based applications
  • Relevant experience with cloud & orchestration technologies (AWS Services, Terraform, Ansible, etc.)
