Job Description & Requirements

JOB SUMMARY: The Software Developer, Advanced Technology Initiatives is a key technical contributor for bringing Advanced Technologies to Universal Theme Parks. This role is responsible for developing new and unique software applications for Universal's theme parks and for developing applications for guest facing attractions, mock-ups, development tools, and productivity enhancements. Creates reviews and maintains many new software technologies including virtual reality, augmented reality, mobile and gaming technologies. Responsible for communicating common engineering issues and solutions between all Universal parks.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop new software applications and deploy to department and project teams. Create proof of concept and mockup software to achieve project goals and continue support for any developed software application after deployment.
  • Manage contracts released to vendors. Participate in the entire contracting process from initiation to close-out. Document and/or review vendor documentation (including drawing, component selection review, calculation review, test plan, test results and/or review other deliverable items as specified by management) for newly created systems and create Standard Operating Procedure documentation where appropriate.
  • Manage the software development process from conception to final release. Supervise and guide project technical personnel (indirect or direct reporting relationships).
  • Manage modifications to software systems as required based upon design and field conditions.
  • Work closely with Creative development teams on creating the concept of the overall experience and ensuring delivery meets all creative requirements.
  • Create mockups and proof-of-concepts. Responsible for Testing and Commissioning. Review, edit or develop test protocols, procedures and plans. Execute witness or approve testing and test results as assigned and authorized by Engineering and Safety management. Reduce data and report on test results.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Some travel required (less than 30%). Significant vendor management.

SKILLS:

  • Experience with Mobile Platforms, particularly iOS, Android, Windows
  • Experience with standards-compliant code
  • Familiar with Agile development process
  • Strong knowledge of C++, C#, Objective C, Swift, and/or Java
  • Strong knowledge of game development engines such as Unity and Unreal
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to "think outside the box" to deliver creative solutions to challenges.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.

SCOPE: The Software Developer is a key technical contributor for developing world class, never-been-done-before experiences using many different advanced software technologies. This individual is responsible ideating and developing software systems for guest and team member facing systems.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree required, Computer Science and/or data analytics majors. Advanced degree required. Degree requirement may be waived depending upon work experience.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3-5 years programming and/or managing developers and/or vendors in the creation of software systems; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of experience within the amusement industry is preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience with Virtual Reality and/or Augmented Reality systems is preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience with mobile operating systems is preferred.
